As spring practice wraps up around the Big Ten we wanted to talk a look, albeit a blurry one, at how the teams in the conference stand today. Spring is a tricky time to rank teams since graduated seniors and players leaving early are not practicing and most incoming freshmen have not arrived on campus yet. Here is how we see the Big Ten heading into the summer portion of the off-season.

This year’s bowl season yielded mixed results from the Big Ten. There were some blowout wins, some blowout losses, and a few close games. Nine teams in the conference made bowl games and their record was 5-4 overall. With some coaching changes, several new quarterbacks, and inevitable roster turnover, the Big Ten in 2019 should have some surprises in store. For now, here are the final 2018 Big Ten power rankings.

Opponent: Iowa Hawkeyes

Location: Saturday October136th, 2018 Bloomington, IN

Why They Played: The Hoosiers and Hawkeyes met for the first time since 2015 in a cross-divisional match up

What The Game Meant: Homecoming is always a special game in college football. With many eyes on IU football, it was a chance to prove it wasn’t “same ol’ story”. However, the Hoosiers laid an egg and put their bowl hopes in jeopardy with the level of performance.

Week Seven Primer – Iowa Hawkeyes

What: Indiana Hoosiers (4-2) vs. Iowa Hawkeyes (4-1)

Where: Memorial Stadium

When: Saturday, October 13, Noon

How to Watch: The game will be broadcast on ESPN2. You can also listen to the legendary Don Fischer on the radio on any IU Radio Network station.

What’s at Stake: This clash is the 106th Homecoming for the Indiana Hoosiers and it is a massive contest with much at stake. IU sits at 4-2 (1-2), needing two more wins to reach bowl eligibility. Next week, the Hoosiers will host Penn State and that will be followed by a Friday night road-trip to Minnesota. Being 5-2 would feel a whole lot better than being 4-3. Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz is in his 20th season at the helm and his Hawkeyes are 4-1 and firmly in position for another very solid bowl game. A victory in Bloomington would keep the Hawkeyes on schedule for a eight or nine win campaign and might see them vault into the top 25.
