Phil Steele is one of the most respected names in the college football journalism industry and he released his annual preseason All-American Team earlier on Wednesday. The Indiana Hoosiers placed three individuals on the prestigious squad: Micah McFadden, Tiawan Mullen and Ty Fryfogle.
Micah McFadden was a first-team All-Big Ten and second-team All-American (Phil Steele) last season after leading the Hoosiers with 58 tackles, six sacks and a pair of interceptions. The senior linebacker from Florida is a team captain and expected to be an All-Big Ten player this coming season. A strong season could cement his status as one of the best linebackers to every play for the Hoosiers. Junior defensive back Tiawan Mullen, another Florida product, was the first IU corner to earn first-team All-America honors after an exceptional 2020 season. He was a lock-down corner and also led the Big Ten in sacks for a defensive back with 3.5. Fifth-year senior Ty Fryfogle was a third-team Associated Press All-American in 2020 and was named the Big Ten Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year. He was the first Big Ten receiver in history to record back-to-back 200-yard games and led the team with 721 yards and seven touchdowns. If Michael Penix can stay healthy, Ty Fryfogle can have a strong season and move up the list of all-time great Hoosier wideouts.
The entire Preseason All-America teams from Phil Steele are available in the upcoming Phil Steele College Football Preview magazine (order at philsteele.com).
