including acting or directing.

A fascinating read about the artistic career of a genuine American movie icon.

Take Clint Eastwood out of American movies and the industry falls several notches.  I dig all of them.  Make my favorite Kelly’s Heroes.  Not so much because of Clint, but the entire cast is absolutely terrific.

BTW Outlaw Josey Wales is 50 years old this year.

Outlaw Josey Wales

Gran Torino

High Plains Drifter

Unforgiven

Kelley's Heroes

That's such a hard list to put together.  Give me a month and it will change.

HM: 2 Mules for sister sarah, Joe Kidd, High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider, Eiger Sanction

Number one for me is The Outlaw Josey Whales. So many great moments and lines in that film.

While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon

Unforgiven

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

Dirty Harry

The Eiger Sanction

Hang Em High

In the Line of Fire

-- And many more. The list changes all the time depending how I feel that day. Just tried to think if there would be one that if it happened to come on the tv (well, streaming) and I noticed, that I wouldnt watch. Nope. If an Eastwood comes on, Im watching.

(Edit, was reminded of The Eiger Sanction above. Added. One of my favs.)

@hooky Thanks for putting that list together, now I don't have to think about it! All I knew for certain is that my top 2 were Josey Wales and Gran Torino.

Nobody mentioned Play Misty For Me.  One of his best.  Creepy.

You're welcome.  I just realized that High Plains Drifter is on there twice.  Hang 'em High should be in the place of one of them.  It's been almost a month, so not sure if it should go in top 5 or HM.

@myteamisonthefloor I think as you and @vanpastorman hit on there's never been anyone with better lines.  john wayne was pretty damn good too.  but a couple of my favorites.  and forgive me as i forget the names of the movies

the tonic salesman.  he's going on and on about how his tonic is a panacea for everything.  and then when he finishes clint spits all over the guy's white suit and goes "how's it on stains."

then the red hotel.  when they're pleading with him.  this isn't a regular hotel.  customers are here all the time.  they live here.  this is their home.  where will they go?   "Out."   absolutely hilarious

they just don't make them like that anymore.

Another favorite scene for me is Chief Dan George as Lone Watie:

“I wore this frock coat in Washington, before the war. We wore them because we belonged to the five civilized tribes. We dressed ourselves up like Abraham Lincoln. We only got to see the Secretary of the Interior, and he said: ‘Boy! You boys sure look civilized!’ he congratulated us and gave us medals for looking so civilized. We told him about how our land had been stolen and our people were dying. When we finished he shook our hands and said, ‘endeavor to persevere!’ They stood us in a line: John Jumper, Chili McIntosh, Buffalo Hump, Jim Buckmark, and me — I am Lone Watie. They took our pictures. And the newspapers said, ‘Indians vow to endeavor to persevere.’ We thought about it for a long time, ‘endeavor to persevere.’ And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union.”
