Never got a chance to see Todd live, but I've been a regular on the Shithouse Wire for years.
Sad, I just heard about this today. I had the pleasure of booking and working with Todd back in 94-95. We booked a couple shows at I believe the Patio and one at the Vogue. Just a great guy and the opposite of the egotistical rock stas who walked into our doors. I'm going to share a couple interviews of Todd with Otis Gibbs. They became close while in Nashville. I had the pleasure of knowing Otis from our days together at the Patio and Vogue.
This next video is from 2013 where Otis is visiting Todd at his house. It's pretty hilarious. There's a Part II as well.
Well apparently you can't copy and past the link of this 2nd video which is weird since they're both from youtube. I highly recomment you search up Otis Gibbs on youtube. His first video should be about the passing of Todd. It's a very intimate telling of his last week knowing Todd.
Otis got it right about Todd’s death. Todd was going through seriously-bad withdrawal symptoms from a drug he took to get off opiates. No one ever really explained why he did not have those meds with him at the start of the tour, and when they got to Salt Lake, but it explains his weird behavior in Salt Lake, and his physical failure to pneumonia when he got back to Nashville.
I hope his family sues the hospital in Salt Lake. They just saw a homeless-looking dude not worth talking to. If they had taken the time to learn what he meant by “I don’t have my medicine” he might still be alive.
Love following Otis. He is a guy who figured out how to go it alone when the music business quit on guys like him. He seems to know every guy who played on a stage or hauled the equipment.

He used to play regularly at a small venue outside Bowling Green. I think it was one of the places he’d go to test stuff out. Planned a trip to a show and life got in the way. Never made it back. Did go to Tillamook, Oregon with my son last year - shared a little space.
