I don't understand how you can tell. At one point, the ball is clearly in the zone before it reaches the plate. The catcher catches it out of zone, below the plate, but also behind the plate. Not sure how, from that angle, you can tell it at any point in its trip across the plate it wasn't in the zone.I would say it just missed the zone, but as a batter in that situation you just don’t let blue control the outcome. You have to swing and put the ball in play.
Seeing the U.S. play the DR and Venezuela in Miami and the crowd is 60-70% rooting for the Latin Americans is odd. Last I checked Miami was in the United States.
Exactly, you don't stand and take a pitch like that when it will be the 3rd strilke. That pitch was a strike most of the night. It stinks it ended the game, but it’s not that outrageous of a call.

There are 10 types of people in this world, those who know binary and those who don't.
The NBA got so bad at not calling travelling in the 90s I just couldn't watch it anymore. It's easier to make a spectacular play with several extra steps which is my guess at why they stopped calling it.Probably right.
While I thoroughly loathe the ABS Challenge System coming on-line, my guess is that we’ll soon see a full-time system in place within 2-3 years, at the MLB level. It’s inevitable. If I were King, however, replays, ABS and any other non-human system would be dumped in the trash bin of history.
My preference would be a similar system in place at the NBA and collegiate level so palming/carrying and traveling would be called properly. At least until refs start calling it as per the rule book.
Oh, don't get me started on the f'in NBA. It's been going on for way too long
and it's only getting worse

@npt There's some truth in that.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.
