Recent estimates reveal that of the roughly 2.7 million who served, only 600k are still alive.
Mortality rates are much higher than in previous wars, and VN Vets live on average 10-12 years less than their predecessors.
Fairly accurate to say the Leviathan killed more of us than the dinks ever managed to do.
As usual, no link to your source. Your number for those who served in Vietnam is surprisingly about right. Your number for those who are still living is lower than the low end estimate. 610K to 850K are estimated to still be with us. I’m playing golf with one of them on Monday. As you well know VN vets are old now, the youngest are in their 70s, my golf buddy is 84. I hope you’re healthy. I was a little worried about you as you’ve not posted lately. Be well.Recent estimates reveal that of the roughly 2.7 million who served, only 600k are still alive.

@qparker thank you buddy. She’s outstanding. Haven’t done a hospital stay in 18 months. Gets infusions every 7 weeks. Some occasional hard mornings but good by lunch. On the high school lacrosse team. Taking the test to get her permit this week. In the Ozarks this weekend with six gfs. Thriving. Thankfully.
Dad made it to 81. Uncle just passed a month ago. 75. Another 2nd cousin about ten years ago. Mid sixties. All cancer.
@larsiu mas' stat really shocked me. my dad is 77. i guess based on the tables 600k out of 2.8 mil sounds right. i don't know. sad.
Dad is 78. He's got a bunch of aneurysms that are monitored every 6 months to see if they're getting bigger. He's had his abdominal aorta repaired where it splits to his femoral arteries. Agent Orange exposure is on the VA records as a possible cause. No cancer, fortunately.
Several of his friends who were over there are either dead from cancer or have successfully fought it.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.
