When you have big government money, subject to big government rules and regulations, administered by tenured government employees who not only don’t give a damn, but use funds for personal benefit, the incidence of big corruption will be 100%. Corruption has gotten so entrenched that some will support it while efforts to stop it will be seen as undemocratic.

The purpose of the federal government is to steal as much wealth as possible from the American people. How did Americans in the 1950's have such high standards of living? Easy. The level of corruption was undoubtedly a fraction of what it is today, along with the size and scope of government.
Conversely, the Godly will inherit unimaginable riches and luxuries. I look forward to that eventuality.

Counter explanation: we had just finished a world wide war that destroyed the industrial base and working age male population drastically in the entire first world except for the United States.
So we dominated the world for a few decades as a result but when the world caught up, our standards of living started to fall. The Golden Age of the 50s-80s, or so, is an anomaly. For most of human history, working class people had both spouses working hard.
