Anthony Fauci was never elected, never treated patients, is not a health policy expert, and is not even an epidemiologist. Why would we give a shit about what he said? Well, he was the top creature in the public health establishment of the U.S. government swamp. He grabbed the reigns of power the moment Covid became an issue and not only never let go but tightened his grip. Fauci snowed under those who were in authority and who could contradict him. But he didn’t do it alone. The media quashed every single health professional who contradicted the Fauci view and dismissed them as quacks. “Disinformation” became the buzzword of the time. California even passed a law prohibiting medical professionals from providing disinformation. For his part, Fauci used a system of public health research and grants to build a support base. The Swamp quickly turned Covid into a political mission as many saw it as a way to make Trump look bad and get rid of him.
The government response to Covid was an abject failure. Kids needlessly missed school. Family gatherings were cancelled. Masks were everywhere. No outside activities. No preventative health care. And more. All because of the swamp ( deep state) and a single individual who could take advantage like nobody ever had before.
The important question facing us is not what to do about the next pandemic, but what to do about the public health establishment swamp.
I might put in an honorable mention for Dick Cheney. Just saying.
@co-hoosier There was no ban on outside activities. I played more golf during COVID than the year before COVID or the year after. No less than 3 days per week. Our Thursday golf league never paused. Did more jogging too. Outside activities were a great break from teleworking, and a necessary social activity. No masks required, except in the clubhouse so we all sat outside and socialized. I personally went in to work more than just about anyone there because I hated teleworking. I had my own office with a door so who could complain about it?

public parks, playgrounds, skate parks, and golf courses were closed all over the country.
Military and public courses. One private course because one of my buddies was friends with a member. No outdoor activities that I engaged in were ever stymied in Ohio. States did their own thing on this and it was different in every state. Bars and restaurants in Ohio were definitely closed or restricted to selling "to go" items. Those that didn't adapt didn't make it. Cool thing was the ability to get alcoholic drinks to go. I think that change in the law is still in effect in Ohio. It was when we moved away, though not all bars/restaurants did it. Make no mistake, that COVID time sucked and that we shouldn't have closed down much of anything at all. We should have focused on protecting the vulnerable people. I wasn't one of them and neither were the kids or most non-elderly or non-sickly adults.Private course?

The golf courses were not closed. We played a lot of golf because it was one of the things we could do without restrictions - except frickin' masks in the clubhouse, which most of us ignored after the first couple weeks when going in just to pay before the round. Ball parks were restricted. Several restaurants didn't last through COVID. That time did suck, but it really did nothing as far as curtailing personal outdoor activities like golf, driving ranges, jogging, etc. At least not in Ohio.There was no ban on outside activities.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Several youth sports organizations are pushing back against St. Louis County’s shutdown of youth sports because of the spread of coronavirus.
Officials from several youth sports leagues have formed the St. Louis Sports COVID-19 Coalition. They have organized to stop what they call the “fear and fiction” being spread by St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page.
Last week, Dr. Page shut down all competitive youth sports, citing them as a primary source of the recent spread and increase of COVID-19 in the county.
Executives of several youth associations, representing hundreds of teams and thousands of athletes, say their coronavirus cases are in the single digits in each of their leagues and that athletes or families have followed quarantine restrictions. The officials say since April, they have been following strict CDC guidelines on their fields and courts with temperature checks, mask wearing, deep cleaning, and more.
