We should not have those who want to invest in corporate America be persona non grata in Congress.

It makes a lot of sense. You can invest in the market and not invest in individual stocks. My wife's 403(b) is entirely in index funds, for example. Malkiel would argue that's the smartest way to invest any way.

A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

I was just filling out my spreadsheet of how DC shut down, negatively  effected me. I had NOTHING.

Maybe we need them to do that 365 days a year.

If men were any more stupid, we would have breed for the extinction of women. Proof yet again that WE are the best thing they have going for them.

We are talking about public servants, after all. The public interest in preventing corruption surely outweighs their personal interest in having unfettered detailed control over their investments.

Just to refresh the record, Jimmy Carter was forced to sell his peanut farm

People who want to serve, will serve. I see no disadvantage to having people who only want to profit by "serving" rethink their decision.

Another thought:  Have all federal elected officials and their staff who have access to potential inside info placed into a giant investment fund that includes all their money AND social security trust funds.  Let's align the incentives.

They have Republicans over a political barrel on Obamacare subsidies. Obamacare is broke, it can't exist without constant cash infusions, but putting your foot down is political suicide.

A conspiracist would say that Obamacare was never meant to make Healthcare more affordable. That this is all going to plan with the ultimate goal being people throw their hands up and embrace M4A.

For a bunch of people that bitch and moan about insurance companies they sure want to give the insurance companies a lot of money.

The entire point of almost all government programs is to hurt the middle class and make more people dependent. You can't have socialism with a strong middle class.

That's ironic, given that President Trump only seems to care about billionaires. It sounds like you live in Carmel, so sure, that might be you. But Trump probably can't name a single person who is middle-class. And judging by the way he believes affordability is a hoax, he has no idea what middle-class people go through. A lot of middle-class struggle with affording childcare, healthcare, food. What plans has he suggested that would seriously impact those?

A quick list of polices they've already implemented or accomplished that are beneficial to the middle class:

1. New tax cuts and extending tax cuts in the One BBB

2. Cutting 300k (I think it's 271k to be exact) Federal jobs

3. Tariffs

4. Driving down gas prices

5. Closing the border

6. Deportations

7. Not extending Obamacare subsidies

8. Lowering deficit spending
