I think the path forward is one or the other. There isn't anywhere near the votes for the cuts it would take for fiscal austerity. The current system is great for people who own assets and on the winning side of fiscal deficit spending....i.e. older people, the poor, and wealthy. The other 60-70%, not so much.
Trump has done a great job with the border and deportations, which needs to continue. It benefits the 60-70% the most. The losers are business owners and wealthy. Tariffs could have been a great policy if they would have corresponded with income taxes being eliminated or drastically lowered. It would be great to see Congress come together on the issue.
The good news is a lot of Trump's policies are old Democrat or centrists policies. Ideally a person like Shapiro would run on them (a person can dream). Long term I doubt it's sustainable, but it should kick the can down the road a couple of decades and give AI more time to produce a productivity miracle.
I view it more through an economic lens, so I tend to shy away from using Nationalism. I think most people hear Nationalism and first think racism, tribalism, and etc, rather than a rearranging of the economy to focus on the working class. I agree Trumpism is divisive.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see her in the primaries, but if I were betting - and I’m not - it’ll be someone who at least appears more centrist like the handful of governors people have mentioned here.

She has no real competition. Newsom is the rich coastal elite guy. Won't play well with the base. Harris is toast. Pete is terrible. If she wants it she'll be tough to beat.

Democrats always end up nominating the more moderate left-center candidate, not the leftist/progressive. Obama, Clinton, and Biden all filled that slot. AOC will make some noise (candidate or not), but she's not getting the nomination. I think Newsom is the front runner today, but that won't last. I think it's Shapiro's to lose.

No. Obama was the left candidate when he won the first time against Hillary. She was the establishment center in 2008.
