I never post to this forum but I don’t know where else to put this and had to get it off my chest. Just had a freaky experience this morning in downtown Indy that I can’t get out of my head and need some objective reassurance that I did the right thing by not calling the police.
So, my sister and her husband took my nephew to the zoo this morning and I agreed that I would meet them for lunch at Shapiro’s. For those who aren’t familiar, Shapiro’s has a large parking lot along the side of the building. I got there about a half-hour early and parked in a space facing the building and far enough away that I could see most of the parking lot so I could tell right away when they arrived.
As I’m sitting there listening to the radio, these two cars pull in almost at the same time and park fairly close to me. In one car there’s an average looking teenage girl in the backseat with braids who looks to be about 13-14 years old. In the passengers seat there is another child of indeterminate gender who also looks to be about 13-14 years old. This child is wearing a bright red wig like something they borrowed from Jem and the Holograms, wearing what appeared to be a poodle skirt, and holding a feather duster. This child was also wearing white face paint with black lipstick. The driver was a woman with glasses who I assumed to be the mother. There was a black couple in the second car. The man was wearing a shirt that said “I Love You 3000” on the front and the woman had a shirt on with a depiction of Nosferatu aka Count Orlock.
The “mother” gets out of her car and starts looking around like she’s trying to find someone or expecting someone else to be there. It’s not the black couple because she parked right next to them. Eventually the black guy gets out and they have a conversation. Then the other woman gets out and eventually the kids get out.
It’s pretty clear they have no intention of going inside the restaurant. They all then walk as a group around the backside of Shapiro’s. A little less than a minute later, all three adults emerge with NO CHILDREN. They then each get in their cars and drive to the opposite end of the parking lot. They park again there and all three get out again. Then they just all three walk away together.
WTF did I witness? Child-trafficking? Should I have called the police? Our society is so nuts, I assume there could be a logical explanation for what I saw, but I’ll be damned if I could tell you what it was. Now I just feel guilty and can’t get it out of my head. The thought that I could have sat idly by there and watched these people exploit those children is horrific. Your thoughts? I honestly don’t know what to think at this point.
Any chance there was something going on nearby that you weren't aware of and they were just parking in Shapiros' lot?
Without the kids acting like something was wrong, I wouldn't assume the worst.
@jj_mcclure super weird deal. If you were trafficking kids I don’t think you’d want them in costumes that would draw attention tho

Yeah, that and doing it at Shapiro's at noonish on Sunday.
@unclemark The kids had scowls on their faces. So not happy, but not scared either…
Given that JJM didn't see what happened when the three adults and two children were behind Shapiros, he shouldn't jump to conclusions along with feeling guilty about not calling the police.
Also, by the time the police arrived it would be too late unless this incident somehow can be tied into criminal activities known, or later known, to the police which is probably unlikely.
@jj_mcclure yeah weird. Could have been drugged. I got roofied at the ZVILLE underground with friends last year and apparently I was making all kinds of scowls etc.
There are a million explanations for what you saw that don't include child trafficking. But if you are worried about it, call the police now, tell them what you saw and ask them if that means anything. They'll take it down, and if something is sketchy, they can refer back to this.I never post to this forum but I don’t know where else to put this and had to get it off my chest. I think it's admirable that you care and believe our society is too cavalier about children (see previous post about sentencing for child rape), so any report, even if misguided, is probably a step in the right direction.
But again, the odds this is the worst case scenario you're thinking of, is probably pretty small. I personally doubt I would have called the police if in the same situation.

I might have gotten out of my car and walked around back to see WTF was going on. I'm nosy that way.
BradStevens, hoping you are right about JJM being "admirable", but the thought has crossed my warped mind that he may be a troll who will soon leave Our Huddle.
@hoot hopefully not. the current lineup is C team at best. where'd littlebitchbuckeye go? and where are the bots?!!! they helped too
@hoot Not at all. I’m a longtime poster here, I just never venture onto this board. I’ve rarely if ever seen you on the football or basketball boards either. UncleMark could vouch for me. Plus, I’m not creative enough to make all that shit up…

Be careful. If I vouch for you they may want you banned.
