Public records indicate that as of 2024, Benjamin Erickson's residence was an apartment in Washington, D.C., and that he previously lived in Wisconsin.
Erickson was an infantryman in the Army from May 2021 to November 2024, an Army spokesperson, Lt. Col. Ruth Castro, said in a statement. Initial public records searches do not indicate that he had a criminal record.
"He has no deployments and left the Army in the rank of specialist," Castro said.
Erickson has been detained as a person of interest, three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation told NBC News.

I'd guess they could ask for some FBI assistance, like checking records, but this is a local and state criminal matter under the current known circumstances.

I don't know they are lost, I think in real life it sometimes takes more than an hour (minus 14 minutes for commercials) to solve a crime.
