@dbmhoosier better late than never.

I think it’s a negotiating ploy. But he’s tired of Putin making him look like a stooge.

Ukraine isn't getting all their land back. I just can't see that scenario playing.

Where have you been, I have been hanging out on Lake Norman and all those NASCAR guys pretended not to know you.

Serious hypothetical: Russia continues provocative actions, and violates NATO airspace. Poland engages and shoots down a Russian fighter jet over Polish territory. And not on the border. Deep enough that there is no question.

What happens?

Both sides issue strong statements, life goes on. Russia cannot come close to winning a non-nuclear confrontation, both sides lose a nuclear one.

If that's the truth, if you really believe that, then I say to the Poles, next time it happens, shoot them down.

Poland would start hosting thousands of US troops and not just hundreds.  The US and Europe suddenly agree on more things like energy policy. We try prying India and China away with more carrot, less stick.  Trump quotes a shocking, highly sensitive internal communique to the press room and a) checkmates Putin, borders restored, Vday Ukraine 2025 🇺🇦 declared b) or we all die in a fiery hellscape.

@goat why would it be far more egress than the USSR downing a Korean passenger jet? At least a military jet has defenses.

Only because in this case, everyone knows people have gotten together and decided what to do "next time" and then that's what they do.

I'm not sure Trump would send a lot of boots on the ground to Poland over a violation of airspace. I think he'd prefer to arm Poland to the hilt, and maybe send more aid to Ukraine to punish Russia.

Maybe, but a Russian fighter being shot down deep in Poland ratchets this war up to a whole new level.  Trump and Nawrocki get along and have already been talking troops/ weapons.  Poland is nouveau NATO; they talk the talk, walk the walk.

I don't know how modernized Poland's military is, but my guess is they would put up a hell of a fight against Russia and have a lot of generational hate built up.  I wouldn't piss them off if I were Putin.

John Bolton may be a self-serving prick but I think he is right about how uniquely important personal relationships with foreign leaders are to Trump and his foreign policy. Zelensky finally bent the knee sufficiently, waited for Trump to get sick of Putin’s BS. The UK rolled out the red carpet and seems to be getting it.

Parents in Kosovo were naming their kids after Clinton and Bush after their war/ independence in the 90s.  I have no doubt we’d see a whole generation of Ukrainian Donalds if he can pull this shit off. Seriously,  someone needs to be telling him this.

Poland has a very good and professional military.
