stop being a nerd. You encounter people who are high all day long. Most of which you have no idea they are high. The only ones you can tell are complete assholes. And they would be complete assholes with or without pot.Only people who want to be around high people are other high people.I don’t even consider Cracker Barrel when Im stoned! That should tell anyone everything.
It does. It tells me there are no pothead vagrants vomiting in the parking lot, passed out on the rocking chairs, or disrupting the dining room.
I'll give you the passed out part, but who has energy to disrupt a dining room or puked from being high?
Bob Evans B&G with home fries >Waffle House>Cracker Barrel>Dennys/IHOP
Anything above the Dennys/IHOP line is edible, sometimes enjoyable. Bob Evans B&G is a delicacy.
Frankly, I don't think I'd ever eat at any of those places. There's ALWAYS a better local option.
I can assure you the local options are not better.
Then, frankly, I'd evaluate where you live. I can't fathom that from small town to major metropolis that everywhere doesn't have a better option than those places.

No thanks. I like being smart.
I do encounter high people all day long, though--on the el, at the train station, etc--and they reek of pot and are stupid. Again, no one wants to be around them except other people who are high.

Sorry to ruin the mystique for you, but I've been in their kitchens, I've shopped next to them at GFS. I know what all those mom & pop diners are serving you for breakfast, and it isn't any better than anything you'll get from a chain. A lot of times, it's worse. And there's one thing the chains actually do better than the mom & pops - follow the health codes. At a mom & pop, you are far more likely to eat an omelet that has a small amount of cigarette ash in it, filled with meat that's been thawing on the counter at room temperature since 4 AM. You won't get that at a big chain. Maybe a Denny's. They suck.

Except for Cheddars, that I like, don't chains just thaw out foods cooked and then frozen at a corporate kitchen?

Depends on the item, but again, you're getting the same from the local joints. Most local joints all get the same sausage gravy out of a #10 can you can buy on palettes at the GFS store. Most places don't make pies from scratch anymore. They either buy them already cooked and frozen, or they buy them uncooked and frozen, and simply thaw and bake.
Even with that, though, you'll still find better quality in some places than others. For example, in most restaurants, if you buy a slice of pie, it's likely to be Sara Lee or one of the other huge producers. But if you go to Grand Traverse Pie Company, they have their own recipes that they prepare in their own commissary, and they are top notch. So, yes, at your particular location, all they did was take the pie out of the freezer, thaw it out, and bake it, but it's still better than the alternatives because the product they started with is higher quality.
Going back to the original type of food in this thread, it's why people like Bob Evans sausage gravy and Cracker Barrel meatloaf. Yeah, a lot of the production happens off-site, but the product is unique, made either in a corporate commissary or outsourced to a particular producer with the requisite manufacturing capabilities, and then shipped to the stores. So you can't get Bob Evans sausage gravy or Cracker Barrel meatloaf anywhere but in those restaurants.
@bradstevens you can't smell weed from edibles, which a shit ton of people take now.
I guarantee you that you don't know who's all high around you.
@goat oh my god
I guarantee one of your local news channels publishes the health inspections reports every week on their website. Read them some time. You'll be amazed, and grossed out. And you'll notice that anytime someone gets "No violations," it's almost always a big corporate chain. Not 100%, but usually.
@boogie the smell is a public nuisance
I can't shop at my local Family Dollar if there's another car in the parking lot, because the smell just sticks in and hovers over the asphalt. And I can't shop at the Dollar General, because the smell also sticks with and hovers all around the employees after they get back from break.
@goat you just captured every fear that haunts me in one Fing post with that one I replied to
@goat yup. I can tell you every parking lot in my little world that stinks like that. In fact it is so Fing strong you can smell it in another person’s car while driving past them. And the really fckd up thing is how many are driving like that. You never had that many driving drunk.

Honestly, the food you cook at home is probably even less safe, but at least your house is full of germs you've already been exposed to, so you're not likely to get sick. Probably make your guests sick, though, so definitely wash your hands a lot and have a good counter-top sanitizer if you're going to prepare a special meal for a lady friend.
