Bourdain would eat flies on a stick in some third world shit hole and declare it the best thing he’s ever tasted. His entire life was an exercise in elitist, cynicism driven by a desperate need to be seen as also rugged with his travel persona. I don’t think there’s a genuine thing about him.
Guy Fieri has helped thousands of small business and makes food that actually tastes good.
Yet one is seen as a “true chef” and the other a punchline.
I think we all know who the better person is though.
you'd do well to ask a mod to delete from the post i quoted to the remainder of the thread. i like guy. he's not bourdain. bourdain was never about the food. he was a story teller that bridged people from all different stations in life and places in a humble remarkable and incredibly observant way. he was a gem.
Hold on. Tony was about food, too. He loved food. Adored it. It was just that he had a knack for placing it in a broader context.
Did you never get around to reading Kitchen Confidential? Seriously, you need to read it. His philosophy on food I know will speak directly to you. He's right up your alley. But he's not just some journalist. You read that, you realize, he's a true chef and a foodie.

How long did you work in food service? Were you ever even actually a station chef?
