You're right. Can't point to the racist smear specifically, but his approval rating has been in freefall over the last several months. His approval numbers are now in post-Jan 6 territory. In fact, among independents (and they will decide the midterm outcome), Trump's approval rating is now lower than it was immediately after Jan 6. He'll be a drag on the party in November. Pubs will certainly lose the House, and the Senate now appears at risk.
