New College

In 2023 DeSantes took over new College of Florida, in part for fiscal mismanagement. The numbers from 2024 show New College spent $83,000 per student. UF was second in FL at $40,000. The rest were all well under that.

$83,000 per student, someone is getting rich. Or maybe having a conservative board does not guarantee fiscal restraint.

You got ‘em Marv!  This should offset the trillions perpetrated by Dems & guarantee midterm wins if you can get this message out to enough people.

Didn't read the article, but could that be due to decreased enrollment, with costs now spread over fewer students?

That is part of it, but another aspect is a severely bloated administrative staff, in other words DeSantis loyalists have been moved onto the payroll.   New College had by far the highest number of administrative staff per 100 students, 33.3 administrators per 100 students.

New College, in a press release, reported that they "happily [became] the first college in America to formally embrace and sign President Trump's vision for higher education."

As a result, they don't have to worry about mundane things like dollars spent per student. They now get "preferential treatment in federal funding decisions in exchange for pledges and agreements on oversight regarding hiring, admissions and campus culture."

"While some have said some of the principles outlined in the compact deserve discussion, experts have argued the conditions infringe on academic freedom and institutional autonomy."

Governor DeSantis took over the school in 2023 and appointed a new Board of Trustees.  Recently, he appointed Urban Meyer to the board, signaling a growing emphasis on __________________.  (have fun - - complete the sentence with something other than the obvious - "football").

Are there any among us that object to teachers reading these texts?

Are there actually teachers that haven’t read all of them? That is concerning.

This shouldn't be a competition. We need to get back to pragmatism. In no world should the President get a friggin' bonus (on top of a ludicrous compensation package for its size). He should have been axed and a CRO put in place to right size the institution.

Not to hijack the thread but read in another post that you go Estes every couple years….do you have a particular place you try to stay when vacationing there?
