Mark my words, if we continue down this path, we will experience a great power war in our lifetimes.

How are you measuring this? Not mention your starting point is right after two major World Wars. It's difficult to have a major world conflict after we just decimated two continents, dozens of economies, and killed millions of fighting age men. And the invention of nuclear weapons, which changed the dynamics of warfare between nuclear nations.
But, yes, the real reason why it hasn't happen is because we exported our industrial base to China, allowed in cheap labor, and pumped the bags for the top 1% of societies 🙄
