@gros-louis Thank you.
Also, while Abby Ang may not be in Bloomington any longer (I frankly don't know or care), the Purple Shirt Brigade was prominently lead by Rev. Forrest Gilmore, who also runs Beacon here in town. He's such a drifter and shit stirrer that he's only been in Bloomington for 15 years.

It's weird to me to be on the side that is defending a white nationalist. Don't get me wrong, they have their 1st Amendment rights, just like we all do. And peacefully protesting those folks is allowed also. But to criticize people who are protesting a white nationalist is an interesting side of the fence to sit on.
You mean Gilmore, who personally is destroying the Bloomington southside, with his "shelter"? 🤣
Biggest grifter in town.
@mattndallas so you despise people that protested a white nationalist. That's clear. But again, interesting company to keep, even if I agree she has the right to her views.

Yeah, Gilmore is LOADED!!! Right behind Carl Cook in local wealth
@mattndallas I don’t remember the deaths? One of Zeke’s researchers must have created that info. 😂
Deaths?
What do you think that report measures? For free speech. Thanks President Whitten and Gov Braun. What a great way to be recognized. https://www.indystar.com/story/news/education/2025/09/09/indiana-university-ranked-us-worst-public-college-free-speech/85991079007/
FIRE isn't partisan. People need to look and see what that report actually is.Researchers are making research what they want it to be.@stollcpa I didn’t write the article nor do the research that led to the article…
The report surveyed college students and the "rankings" are based on their subjective opinions about the campus environment and their own willingness to listen to opposing ideas and not advocate illiberal responses:
"The sixth annual College Free Speech Rankings, released today by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression and survey partner College Pulse, show a continued decline in support for free speech among all students, but particularly conservatives. Students of every political persuasion show a deep unwillingness to encounter controversial ideas. The survey, which is the most comprehensive look at campus expression in the country, ranked 257 schools based on 68,510 student responses to a wide array of free speech-related questions."

That's not convenient nor does it fit the narrative.
Jesus Christ...possibly the worst timed post in the history of the WC attempting to pin trampling of free expression on college campuses on conservatives.
Good work OP. Never fail to impress.
@mattndallas these schools will shutdown shit like this now. Very sad. They can’t provide the security needed and now just open themselves to liability
@jdb FIRE is usually pretty non-partisan. Per your comment, Harvard and Columbia are the only two schools ranked behind Indiana.
But Zeke is jumping the gun as I think a lot of the self-censorship students are engaged in cuts towards censoring Conservative beliefs as well. There’s still a 3:1 liberal to conservative ratio at IU after all. The 74% percent of IU students that believe shouting down a speaker they disagree with is acceptable and the 35% that believe violence to stop a speaker they disagree with is acceptable….. are we supposed to believe they’re all conservatives? Fat chance. That math doesn’t work. A lot of the problematic speech policies FIRE cites in their ranking are left leaning policies.
So pinning this all on Whitten and Braun is extremely dumb and shows that Zeke and the author of that Indy Stat article didn’t even bother to go to FIRE’s website before letting people know their inane thoughts.
First of all, UT was a public school last I checked and its ranked below IU. Secondly, the rankings are arbitrary garbage.
You mean to tell me after all of the shit at UCLA the past year that it's basically the same as U of Iowa and also has a "Green" spotlight rating, though no other school on the page has this?
It's absolute trash. God forbid a public school have the balls to crack down on pro-Palestinian supporters who are ruining the campus and disrupting everyone else's experience and push back on DEI policies.
You are right, UT should be lower.

@carramrod you can profile and get the expected answer without much trouble
Doubt the institutional censorship of the original historical artwork in the IU Lecture Hall was considered. For free speech. Thanks President Whitten and Gov Braun. lol, yea right… the campuses where people were actively harassed and conservative commentators were cancelled just happened to not be factored in
@stollcpa What are you even babbling about now?
@bradstevens I agree it’s pretty subjective, but I’m not a believer in all publicity is good publicity. Do you disagree that this is a bad look for IU?
@mattndallas Life goal is to impress people like you. Posted 5 days ago.
