a large Suburu SUV
I didn't know they made a large SUV. I need to go visit a Subaru dealer, cause I'm due for a different vehicle.

My point is that I don’t spend a minute of my time trying to figure out if the owner of any particular car is right, left or whatever. Don’t see the point. If it’s a vehicle sporting Trump flags or one with a bunch of liberal cause stickers, they’re telling us who they are. That’s enough for me. Still going to mess with my MAGA buddy about his large lefty Suburu. It’s a good vehicle for Arizona though.Cmon Aloha. It's joking about stereotypes. But there is data to back it up:She probably drives a Subaru, so $5 gas isn't as big a deal for her.
They aren't that good on gas tbh
My daughter’s Crosstrek gets good mileage at about 34 mpg on the highway.
Seems high to me, but not too far off. Most of these lefties driving them are living in urban areas (see Minneapolis).
Lefties? What makes you think it's for lefties? It's perfect for her since it's all wheel drive and drives great in the snow, which she needs in Northern Arizona, and she loves to do camping and other stuff outdoors. We can't even talk cars these days without bringing politics into it.
My car is a gus guzzler that can do nearly 180 mph. Is that a lefty or righty car? Well, I guess it's probably not a car for the far left . . . but do you really think of vehicles as left or right cars? Why would you waste any time at all thinking that way? Maybe you're joking.
Gemini:
Yes, studies and market research have consistently shown that Subaru drivers lean more Democratic or liberal compared to other automotive brands. The brand is highly popular among Democratic voters, ranking alongside vehicles like Volvos and Teslas in surveys of voter car preferences. Here is a breakdown of the connection between Democrats and Subarus:
- Popular Models: The Subaru Outback is often identified as one of the most popular vehicles among Democrats. Other popular Subaru models for this demographic include the Forester and Crosstrek.
- Political Demographics: Data from studies (such as those by Strategic Vision) has shown that consumers who identify as liberal or progressive often favor, in addition to Subarus, vehicles that are perceived as environmentally friendly, practical, and "cool".
- Target Market: Subaru has historically engaged in marketing targeting specific, often left-leaning, demographics, including the LGBTQ+ community and environmentally conscious outdoor enthusiasts.
- Regional Factors: While Subaru is popular in blue-leaning areas (like New England), its high-practicality and all-wheel-drive capabilities also make it popular in regions with specific terrain or weather needs, regardless of political affiliation, such as in Colorado or Alaska.
- Stereotype vs. Reality: While the stereotype of a "liberal Subaru driver" is backed by data, it is not exclusive; the brand also appeals to individuals who prioritize reliability, safety, and high resale value.
Conversely, research often shows that Republican voters tend to favor larger, American-made trucks and SUVs.
If you don't already call him a lesbian for driving a Subaru, you're not doing your job as a buddy.Hot dog! I can’t wait to tell my MAGA buddy with a large Suburu SUV that he’s driving a libturd vehicle. I’ll just make sure he’s not carrying when I do. LOL!Maybe it's a false impression, but I feel that the average "outdoorsy person" leans a little more to the left, due at least in part to environmental protection issues. I am not talking about the RV campers, but more about the backpackers, hard core hikers, climbers, etc. So if you choose a car that facilitates that, then I can understand the mental connection. When I lived in Massachusetts a LOT of people were Subaru drivers. Some just because it was great in the snow, but others maybe because it does connect to their tree hugger mindset. They tended to be "bumper sticker people" LOL, so you could tell.
Subarus earned their outdoorsy, tree hugger reputation back in the 70s/80s when they were first introduced to the US market in the northeast -- i.e. Vermont, NH, Maine, Massachusetts, etc. It took them a number of years to gain a foothold, but when they did it came with an L.L. Bean vibe.
They also sold a bunch of RHD cars that went to rural postal carriers. The AWD and reputation for reliability in that sector were major factors in their initial success.
I think it’s nonsense. What’s not nonsense is if the back of a vehicle is covered in stickers it’s almost certainly being driven by a lefty - that’s even before you’re close enough to read them. They love to display their virtuous causes and beliefs.
The bumper sticker divide narrowed greatly with MAGA. Lots of proud Trumpers out there. Particularly in pickup trucks.
Now here's something you say that I'm inclined to believe. If anyone knows about pickups and MAGA stickers, it's the guy who has to ride his bike on the sidewalk.

He should be asking him if his PT Cruiser is in the shop.
That's way more subtle and funnier.

Also an excellent choice.
A buddy bought a miata a couple of summers ago. That was a fun situation until he got rid of it.

Book Club idea @bradstevens : the first seven Archy McNally mysteries by Lawrence Sanders. Archy drives a red Miata around Palm Beach and smokes English Ovals.

Just bought a 2025 model year CRV for my wife. It has a similar front end to the Pilot. They are a good looking vehicle.
