You don't get to throw out ridiculous spin and then hide behind bullshit authority cards and "I'm not doing this again."@bradstevens not ridiculous. Accurate. I saw the intelligence myself. As I said before, we argued this many many times and I’m not doing it again.
If you're not doing it, don't. Otherwise, don't bitch when you get called out on spin. The Bush admin manipulated the intelligence process. It's documented.

Of course I can and I did. I didn’t say it was all accurate and in hindsight much wasn’t. However it was all in the intelligence at the time and the majority consensus of our intelligence services and those of our allies was that Iraq had WMD. That is 100 percent accurate. The argument really should be what we should have done about it and we argued that endlessly too. I guess you weren’t here, but I was, and I’m serious when I say I’m not doing it again. It’s just exhausting and there are plenty of current events to discuss.
lol. You consider sending heavy equipment to the border to remove physical barriers put in place to keep illegals out “largely ignoring” it? The goal was the same then as it will be when Dems take office again because of idiots focused on Trump’s mean tweets & spreading half truths & misinformation about the economy like you have in this thread regarding inflation. The lack of enforcement was specifically designed to change the electorate in favor of Dems, & you can bet your ass they’ll do it again once in power. Give citizenship to those that are here that they’ve bought votes from already & let more in & do the same. The irony is that much like women that advocate for Muslims, any so called conservative that votes for Dems because Trump is ensuring their own political extinction…@big-ryan Trump has been better than Biden on the economy and border. It is what it is. Trying to deny it is ignorant and shows you can't get past your emotions. By the way you can still not like him and vote for Democrats. It's a really dumb thing to do and I advise against it, but unfortunately everyone gets to vote in our country.

Biden was a below-average president. I’m not - - and wasn’t - - a fan.
I don’t know why you’re bringing up the border in this thread, but Biden's border “policy,” if you can call it that, was a mess. His administration largely ignored the southern border crisis for three years and then finally addressed it when they realized it was a huge political liability in the 2024 presidential election cycle. And what they did (they got behind Lankford’s bipartisan border bill) was too little, too late.
Now, back to my post. I simply stated the irrefutable fact that inflation is higher now than it was at the end of Biden’s term.
Inflation is elevated thanks in large part to two of Trump's policies.
First, his tariffs and trade policy. In July, he reimposed sweeping global tariffs, ranging from 10% to 12.5%, on more than 80 countries. Applying duties to imported, unfinished goods increases domestic production costs, which are then passed on to consumers.
Next, his Middle East war has been fueling higher prices for many months. Shortly after he started bombing Iran, Iranian leadership closed the Strait of Hormuz to virtually all maritime traffic. The largest energy supply disruption in modern history sent fuel prices soaring. That, in turn, has caused prices on many other goods to spike because of increased transportation/shipping costs.
You may not like those facts, but they’re incontrovertible.
Trump is badly underwater among American voters on his handling of the economy. In recent polling, a majority of voters said their top issue is the high cost of living. Recent polling also finds voters trust Dems more than Republicans on the economy. This is a huge liability for Republicans in the midterms, and will cost them both chambers.
@aloha-hoosier it’s salient for many reasons including to highlight just how worthless “your” gop was. It’s no surprise they haven’t won in decades
Has worked perfectly so far and continues to work perfectly … Netanyahu got a gazillion top Iranians killed, got the US to decimate the Iranian military free of charge, got to invade Lebanon with little public backlash because the world was focused on Iran vs US and Hormuz (ongoing), got tge world distracted from Gaza. His list is probably much longer and deliciously so.No, it didn’t work perfectly for Netenyahu. He wants a non-nuclear, non fundamentalist Iran just like the US does.
it didn’t work for us, but it worked perfectly for Netanyahu. Is there a lesson to be learned there? In hindsight, we can say that it didn't work, but we don't know what information he had at the time he made his decision.
Without hovering over it to check, I'm going to guess your fire emoji came from dbm.
Edit: Wow, that was a surprise.

Did you misspell “Mark”
@spartans9312 dude doesn’t care what dems do. Murder full term babies. Let serial killers out of prison. Mutilate middle schoolers. Dem til death. Bizarre shit

GOAT would probably qualify as a conservative Democrat at this point
@spartans9312 yes he would. i just don't 1) understand why anyone is tethered to any party and 2) how anyone could support this iteration of the dem party. what they support is either batshit crazy, shockingly childish, or pure evil

Look how often policy is discussed in your responses to Bowl, Mark, Zeke, Hickory, Shooter…maybe 1%. The reason is they can’t defend them…therefore they ignore them…or defending them would cause embarrassment once they see the actual words that are typed
@spartans9312 i just don't get it. i really like soccer shows. shocker. but it really could be any sport and i'd still like it. if i had money that would be my dream job. buying a failing club and trying to restore them or build them up. welcome to wrexham you've probably heard of. it's with ryan reynolds and the funny guy (tho they're all funny) from always sunny. that stuff. tho it is by far my least favorite. sunderland. tom brady has one with birmingham blah blah. anyway there's one on peacock about the italian side como. lake como. totally run down shit show. stadium falling apart. fourth division. defalcation amongst former ees. anyway a russian american bought them. young guy. like 39. they interviewed his ny russian immigrant parents. the dad held a prestigious job in russia and when he and his wife came to america he had to bus tables and wash dishes. he went on about how so many immigrants he knew embraced an entrepreneurial spirit. how they saw america is unfettered opportunity. free to pursue the limits of your abilities. and the russian immigrant wife goes "we know communism. we know socialism. there is nothing worse. nothing." everything that made this country great these lunatic dems want to destroy. some how russian immigrants get it but the chick getting an msw from george warrent brown at wash u for a $100k a year funded by her rich jew ny parents doesnt. it's beyond bizarre
@spartans9312 @bar-down I'm still a leftist. I believe in things the left (traditionally) believes in. I'm not scared of Marx. I'm not scared of pluralism. I do honestly believe that the powers in charge of capitalism work to benefit the ownership class at the expense of the workers. I do honestly think we'd all be a whole lot happier if we got rid of things like, oh, say, "private ownership."*
But I'm also not opposed to some traditional conservative values. I don't think tradition is bad. I don't think religion is bad. I don't think moralizing is bad. At least not always.
I do think the current Dem party is wacko. I am not woke. I used to think I was, but what qualifies as woke now is so extreme, I can't claim that, anymore. But I'm not a blue dog. I'm not just some closet Republican who also likes unions.
I will continue to vote mostly Dem, not because I think the Dems are on the right track, but because the current iteration of the GOP scares the shit out of me. If you can't understand why anyone would support modern Dems, I can say the same thing about modern Repubs. Modern Dems might force me to accept liberal trans athletes winning world championships in women's lacrosse, but modern Repubs will steal my wallet and then take it to add to their collection in their bunker before unleashing the end of the world.
Also, how I said above moralizing isn't always bad? Well, I mean that, and I do make moral judgments about people and groups and movements, and quite frankly, I think most modern conservatives are blatantly immoral. I understand the need to defend our border from terrorists, but I don't want to associate myself with the people who would shut the border to the refugee begging "Please, may I just have some bread and a place to sleep?" and then laugh about it. Which you two might not personally do, but you know damn well it's not a stretch description of the right at this moment in time.
Honestly, I think our politics is so broken we need an entirely new paradigm. Forget left vs. right. I'm no longer convinced democracy is even workable. I think we need to radically rethink how we govern ourselves while we still have time, since the machines will be governing us sooner rather than later, anyway, especially if we don't fix things.
* Caveat to my leftism: I also am aware enough to recognize the negatives that necessarily go along with such ideals. Private ownership is, so far, the best way we've found to avoid the tragedy of the commons. I really need to see a committed Marxist actually solve that problem. I don't think I've ever seen one, at least that convinced me.
@goat vehemently disagree re who is stealing your money, who is evil, and the value of private ownership for reasons i could write a book on. the ability to work and achieve provides purpose for so many. i was literally just reading about soon to be 80 yr old terry bradshaw. he said if they kick him off tv he'll put more time into going on the bourbon trail for that business. our country is predicated on work. ambitions. anyway. for another time. i do agree with you we need a new "form" of government. but more than that we need two countries. what the last decade has shown is that we are not as close as we once thought in our beliefs. aloha republicans and socialism. full term abortion and no abortion. on and on. we are so polar. and it's obviously totally untenable to break the nation into two. i don't know where we go or what we do. maybe ai will be the answer or kill us all. absent that a constitutional convention that gives rise to vastly diminished federal powers with far more earmarked for states. you want to kill full term babies and be woke. go to Massachusetts. you want to ban abortion. go to fla.

I could be wrong about this but I think the amount of private ownership that doesn’t involve government intervention…is shrinking. I think that is a bad deal.
