@yothn They can publish whatever the hell they want to publish.  Online.  These are just immature, emotionally unstable people throwing a temper tantrum.

@tammany I don't think Mark Cuban was please and dare say he is a major contributer, if you haven't noticed.

@yothn Not angry in the slightest.  Just being blunt.

Mark probably has no idea what’s really going on.  Wouldn’t be the first time this was the case and he fired off a tweet.  It will be Pam’s job to manage the relationship with him.

The fact of the matter is the IDS gets their website where they can write whatever they want.

What this is really about is the IDS hates the IU admin and the IU admin doesn’t like the IDS much either.  So, this created a mountain out of a mole hill (special edition for homecoming).  I can barely care about it.

@tammany this is the problem. The administration can control the website. They can't control what gets printed so they shut it down. The university doesn't want to hear about reporting and what might be said about the president. It's a nasty unfortunate situation. My wife is an IU journalism grad and people like her find this repulsive. Ernie Pile would too.

Come on. Its journalists in training...

Of course journalism and media people complain. They are educated on only one thing free speech! free speech!

When it comes to the business side, or all the other planks of the bill of rights and constitution, which Whitten and university figures have to guard; media, and especially wet behind the ears media, are generally clueless.

Media just defends their own turf. Free speech!

Maybe they were wronged in a small way. Well, we are hearing about it, right? So they have free speech.

Isn’t it the university can’t control the website but they can control what’s printed (because no one would pay for print)?  Maybe I am missing something.  The IDS seems to have free rein on the website.  I think that’s important even though I am not impressed with the IDS.  Got to let them write what they want.

I just can’t get that worked up over print in 2025.  Almost no one reads print.

I had friends who wrote for the IDS and I’ve read it for years.  And since we’re all assuming what generally apolitical Ernie Pyle might think, I doubt he would be impressed with what the IDS pumps out.  I get every paper has some ideological angle and I don’t expect the IDS to be perfectly down the middle, but my goodness are they agenda driven and self-centered.

Embarassing and unecessary, but a symptom of what is happening at our university.  IU has always been a bit too liberal for my taste but this reeks of the opposite odor.

Wouldn't be shocked if this was further abuse of power from dictator whitten

Edit: laugh all you want but people on both sides should care about freedom of speech/press or no one will care when yours is taken away

Yep, this is getting close to spiraling. I’d prefer not to know everyone’s political opinions and just talk football.
