@spartans9312 @joe the first thing to do is make damn sure you actually have to pay that fifty percent.
@joe_hoopsier My two cents:
1. Do what makes you happy.
2. Do whatever it takes to sever all ties to future ex as quickly as possible (i.e. see #1)
3. Keep your mind off stuff by building pergolas for people who need them.
4. Ask a financial advisor type for the tax consequences of all your actions. Re future appreciation, sell everything and put it in Bitcoin. (Come on, snarl, give me a like here!)
And that is what happens TODAY. I have had a decent offer to her on the table for 4 months now. Today is the day that we find out if I need a band aid or a tourniquet.
Obviously I've been preparing for several different options, but on Hell's Eve I 1) wanted to check the water here and 2) get another star soon. It may be all I have after today.
Divorce BEFORE you make any money! Do it quickly, do it often!
Why do we still not have a Heart reply?

@joe_hoopsier No, your stars wil be halved, ex will start posting here with her share of those stars, and 50% of all your future earned stars will go to her for a mere 20 years.
Sorry, but it’s only fair.
Ask snarl.... he'll tell you to sell everything, pay your debt, and invest the rest i bitcoin. 🤣
There are 10 types of people in this world, those who know binary and those who don't.
@joe_hoopsier good luck bud. be strong. remember it was never you it was always her. and the kids didn't listen either. THEY should all be paying YOU
Let’s imagine, if you will, that you have a large (50% of your total assets) payment to make, to a past mistake in your life.
would you wipe out 75% of your 401k and 90% of your brokerage.
or would you sell your paid for homes, and keep about 85-90% of your investments? You are 57 yrs old.
yes I know I should, and will, consult my investment guy, but I feel there’s some folks here that could have some respectable comments.
Don't touch your 401k. Sell all the paid for homes except the cheapest (so you can live in it). If that figure still comes up short of the nut you need to crack, make a repayment plan to the mistake (over 5 years) for the remainder and adjust your ongoing contributions/payments to your investment account accordingly.
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"
@joe_hoopsier lastly fight to the death now Joe. Don’t ever think you can modify later. Way too hard. Get what you can live with now
@joe_hoopsier I can't let this slide any longer. That's not a verb. In your signature, you're using danc as an adjective.
I wouldn't use the 401k.... At 57, you're going to pay an early withdrawal pls your income tax rate. So could be something like 40%+ going to go to taxes.
I don't know what the properties are and if they are just for fun or you actually live in them. You would need to know the tax implications of selling property vs brokerage account to come up with the best answer.
