@shooter shorter version you're not for it.
Russ is preparing the fire
On the one hand, it appears the Democrats are walking right into this mess entirely oblivious.
On the other hand, if Trump's main play here is using the shutdown to replace large swaths of the federal workforce, then I don't think there is any deal the Dems can reach. Even full capitulation would probably result in the Repubs trying to add even more unpalatable provisions as last-minute amendments or during conference.
The base doesn't want a deal with Trump. That has everything to do with the messaging around Trump. He's a fascist...blah blah blah. It's a big problem for the Democratic leadership...but it's one of their own making
Don't forget that he's a racist. I sure hope they keep it up.

Do the Democrats in Congress vote to “save democracy” or fund the Trump train? Leadership has painted themselves into a corner with their own words. The base believes what they’ve been saying over and over. The solution is readily apparent but leadership will pay a steep price
If the Dixie Chics got back together and made a song called “American Junky”, DNC would be the star of the video.
DNC is addicted to being a ruling class over people they suppress (un)intentionally. Just like a junky sleeping on 2000 thread count sheets, with a needle sticking out its arm.
If men were any more stupid, we would have breed for the extinction of women. Proof yet again that WE are the best thing they have going for them.
Senators like Ossoff have chosen to vote in a manner that means the large military contingent in Georgia will not get paid. He will have to tell them that funding NPR and healthcare for illegals is more important. This is the politics we are going to see play out.
That would be bad if it was true. But it's not.

I went and looked at the recent Senate votes…I was unable to find the authorization. If it has happened could you provide the link?

Military personnel are considered "essential." They'll get paid.
The government is shut down...it's a good day
funny, I didn’t peg you as a "eff the military and their families, those a-holes don't need a paycheck" kind of guy
Why did Ossoff vote nay? He has a large military population that will not get paid. As I said previously….the Democratic leadership has painted themselves into a corner. Ossoff has chosen the socialists over the soldiers. Why?
Early polling suggests the voters are slightly more likely to blame the GOP, believe it or not. Maybe we should withhold judgment on the Dems' political acumen (or lack thereof) for a hot minute.
They are eventually going to vote to fund “Hitler’s” government….the progressives base is not going to be happy. The swing district Democrats will get a progressive opponent in the primary…who may not be able to win. OMB is going to play a roll.
We'll see. Shutdowns don't last very long, usually, and when it's over, everyone gets backpay. The reason is public opinion quickly swings against one side, who capitulates, and everyone agrees to spend whatever it takes to make everyone whole so no one ends up the Scrooge.
Before this started, I'd bet the Dems end up in the loser's role, but the first reactions look surprisingly promising for them. We'll revisit this in 5-7 days, I'm sure.

Military personnel are considered "essential." They'll get paid.
I don't know about the military in particular, but the usual way this works with "essential" functions is that those workers are expected to work for free, in the hopes that they'll eventually get paid when Congress comes to its senses. No one actually gets paid during the shutdown.

I understand that's how it works with civilian employees, that they work for "free" and get back pay afterwards, but I believe military personnel are unaffected altogether. BICBW and will stand corrected if I am. Regardless, none of the GA military people that spartans is so concerned about are going to lose money when it's all said and done.
No, the military doesn’t get paid during a shutdown, but as “essential personnel” they continue to work. They do get back pay after it’s over. Shutdowns aren’t that painful to those who aren’t living paycheck to paycheck, but it’s very painful to those who are, like junior enlisted and officers or those who’ve recently bought property or whatever and have monthly bills they can’t pay out of what exists in their bank accounts.Military personnel are considered "essential." In the long run, essential employees are why shutdowns cannot go on. Last time, air traffic controllers got tired of working for free and called in sick. No planes in skies destroys the economy, so a deal was quickly reached.

They will get paid once democrats vote in a manner that allows that to happen. Same thing as when the republicans voted against the funding bills.
What’s health care for all mean? I’ve seen multiple democrats backed in a corner and they won’t deny that illegals are included in “all”.I've listened and read the demands of both sides and Democrats are NOT demanding free healthcare for illegals. JD Vance is making that claim to get people like you who are easily duped outraged again. Actually, you're constantly outraged. Doesn't that make your life miserable? How do you sustain it?I agree with 2013 Donald Trump
“A [government] shutdown falls on the president’s lack of leadership. I mean problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. A shutdown means the president is weak.”
Donald J. Trump, 2013
So Trump should bend over the give Schumer something that probably 70% of Americans don't want?

Yep, people spreading that lie are transparent. Undocumented are not allowed ACA subsidies to begin with, no one serious wants to change that.
