@shooter shorter version you're not for it.

Russ is preparing the fire

On the one hand, it appears the Democrats are walking right into this mess entirely oblivious.

On the other hand, if Trump's main play here is using the shutdown to replace large swaths of the federal workforce, then I don't think there is any deal the Dems can reach. Even full capitulation would probably result in the Repubs trying to add even more unpalatable provisions as last-minute amendments or during conference.

The base doesn't want a deal with Trump. That has everything to do with the messaging around Trump. He's a fascist...blah blah blah. It's a big problem for the Democratic leadership...but it's one of their own making

That's definitely a problem. I'm wondering whether this threat to fire everyone is just a negotiating tactic or Trump's true goal. If it's the later, the Dems are dead in the water, anyway, because that means Trump wants the shutdown, and he's successfully found a way to blame the Dems for it.

We both know that Democrats are eventually going to vote to fund the government. The question is how does the base react? There is a large portion like Hickory that thinks the President is Hitler. Once that happens the administration will continue the deportations, they will continue with the deregulations. Will they make these trades in order to fund NPR?

I think they’ve backed themselves into a corner and they are unprepared on the solution to get themselves out.

In 1980, AG Benjamin Civiletti wrote a memo that the 1884 anti deficit act required the government to shut down without funding. Before that the government would continue open as any other time.

My question, that may legally be true, but who could have standing to sue to have the government shut down? Who could possibly show harm?

Do the Democrats in Congress vote to “save democracy” or fund the Trump train? Leadership has painted themselves into a corner with their own words. The base believes what they’ve been saying over and over. The solution is readily apparent but leadership will pay a steep price

AtlasIntel has a poll that says that, the same poll has Trump's approval rating upside down at 47-52 among all voters. Also, only in immigration and defense does Excellent have a higher number than Terrible. You can download it below.

That’s all that matters to them, not what’s being done or said, only who’s doing or saying it.  The speeches on immigration by both Clintons, Obama are perfect examples.

A government shutdown in ridiculous and 100% should have been avoided.

You seem full of hatred for me not because or what I believe in or post, but for the lies of a certain few  posters who attack me and twist around what I say until it is unrecognizable.

A government shutdown should trigger instantly turning off the electricity to the Capitol building and White House, as well as terminating pay instantly for all of Congress

@shooter my post you're responding to wasn't referencing the Government shutdown.  Also, I don't hate you.  You're just incredibly disingenuous and we disagree on politics

LOL. That is an outlier even among outliers. Trump's approval among Black voters is consistently underwater by about 50 points.

I’ve listened and read the demands of both sides and Democrats are NOT demanding free healthcare for illegals.

The BBB cut free health care for Biden era refugees and asylum seekers.  The Democrats want that restored. Biden era refugees and asylum seekers are at least, in many cases, here illegally given Mayorkas’ lax enforcement.

Several states provide health care for illegals.  The  Democrats health care funding demands would subsidize that.
