So what should happen? Should the Dems just accept their fate and lay down? Or should they hold out for concessions?
It appears they have a chance at getting some, if not all the health care cuts restored, i.e. restoring the funding for Medicaid and the subsidies for those covered under ACA policies.
I'd love to see the funding for PBS/NPR/CPB restored as well.
USAID funds should be restored too.
I know little of this is likely to happen, but a guy can dream, can't he.
The most concerning thing for me is that there is now nothing to prevent Congress from appropriating the funds and Trump refusing to spend them. That was supposed to be handled in the legislation that followed Nixon's resignation, but the Supremes don't seem to care about following the letter of the law if it slows down Trump and their drive to solidify the power of the Unitary Executive.
I agree with 2013 Donald Trump

How can they enforce restored funding? They reach agreement but Trump can just refuse to spend it. Then what? I get Schumer has to show backbone but Trump has already proven he doesn't give a damn what Congress spends money on, and the Supremes aren't interested in it. So I don't know what the Dems can get out of it.

So Trump should bend over the give Schumer something that probably 70% of Americans don't want?

Trump will be able to fund all the things he wants and make some cuts to areas they couldn't during DOGE is what I have read.
I've listened and read the demands of both sides and Democrats are NOT demanding free healthcare for illegals. JD Vance is making that claim to get people like you who are easily duped outraged again. Actually, you're constantly outraged. Doesn't that make your life miserable? How do you sustain it?I agree with 2013 Donald Trump

Free emergency care for all comers was mandated by Reagan. Just sayin'.
Last time I checked, Republicans CONTROL all three branches. Seems to me that Republicans should be spending more time negotiating with the few remaining holdouts on their own side and less time bitching about how this will be the Democrats fault.
...but never let a good crisis go to waste I guess.

how about finding a quote of an actual dem claiming they want free healthcare for illegals?
while you're at it, find one that says they want completely open borders as well.
You won't be able to because it's all just conservatives lying about the other side's position so they can scare people into supporting them.
Dems should try and compromise. Ask for things they really want funded to be funded. Also they should concede some things. ALSO they should offer other items that could be cut that weren't even considered by the GOP.
If the GOP is unwilling to work with that then vote NO. Then the DNC needs to run 24/7 ads on what is being cut and what is being funded by the DNC. Create a witty and degrading name for the bill.
Hold on... I've been thinking all this time that Trump and the Republicans control all 3 branches??? Why are we headed for a shut down again? And why, on earth, would it be the Democrats fault?

Need 60 votes. We have over 50 but Dems are insisting on billions to fund illegal immigrants which almost no one supports.
@dbmhoosier I've not seen, or heard, that from the democratic side. Also, obviously, they don't "need" 60 votes. They can get it through with a simple majority, if they have the stones to go through that process.
I call this "fake governing".
If Dems do this there will be mass firings.
