i agree.  That is why, upon further review, I subsequently posted that government taking an equity position in private business is not a good idea.

Loans or loan guarantees are one thing; taking an equity position is a different thing. If a particular product or service is vital to our national interest, I have no problem with an arrangement like the TVA.

So you oppose a sovereign wealth fund then?  And investing govt assets for social security in the market?

Yeah, I think a SWF using general fund revenues is a bad idea.  Cash flow should be the only consideration for a government.  Equity investments are not that.  Loans and loan guarantees would be okay with me.  In our case, we shouldn’t be buying stock while simultaneously issuing debt.

Can a SWF short a stock?

It can do whatever your legislature set it up to be allowed to do, if you have a President who follows those rules.

Re loans and loan guarantees, isn't that the govt distorting the market and picking winners and losers?

Depends on how they are administered.  But yeah, loans and guarantees can be used for various kinds of political payback and pay to play schemes, and they have been.  Properly done, they can be a public benefit.

C'mon, man. We both know the only thing that matters is whether it's a Republican or a Democrat who does it.

Private company now partially owned by the federal government. It won’t be long now.

I think it makes a difference if a company is critical to out economy or national defense.

Unfortunately, it reeks of Chinese-style control of our industries.

I'd rather see more oversight of these companies instead of ownership.  Bad precedent, but as Hooky points out, it's been going on for a long time.

I don't think this Intel deal is like Chinese-style control of industry at all.

Good examples. On some level, they're all bullshit and similar if you're a fiscal conservative Bitcoiner who has a strong distaste for Governments, shit libs, and socialist.
