I'm scheduled to fly from Chicago to Lisbon this coming Thursday night...on Air mother effing Canada. As of this morning they're saying the flight will take off as scheduled, so no cancellation or refund. I REALLY don't want to be scrambling around O'Hare trying to figure out how to get to Lisbon.
Thinking about getting a refundable flight on another airline. Ugh. This sucks.
This is my last day in the office (moving my daughter into her dorm in Pittsburgh tomorrow). If I seem extra chippy and short today, this wrench in my plans is why.
Rant over.

she going to pitt?
@ohio-guy wow! i was there ages ago. really liked it a lot. oakland i think it was. like a cool college town stuck right next to a city. cool campus. all of it. i was impressed. had primanti's before it went to shit. and saw super mario in the igloo
@mcm666 yeah, she's excited. We looked at Butler, Xavier, Dayton and Pitt. She graduated near the top of her class and did well on her test scores, but for some reason OSU accepted her to one of their branch campuses, which devastated her.
For awhile she really thought she wanted to play soccer in college (she definitely couldn't play at Pitt), but her concussion history and not wanting to go to a small school just to play soccer factored in heavily. She said she's going to look into club/intramurals.
@ohio-guy club can be great at big schools. i have multiple friends who had kids who played club and high school who got cut from mizzou's club team. a lot of schools make it great
Sounds like you'll be fine
@jdb yeah, I think all should be good to go. Still, I'll feel a lot better when I'm in the air on the way to Portugal. I'm leaving from O'Hare and have a layover in Toronto. I checked flightaware and it looks like those flights have been on schedule the last couple of days....I'm optimistic...

Sounds like the drop off went well. Can never be easy. Was she your first or second?
Also, it looks like OSU has lower admission averages, so I'm surprised she didn't get the nod. How much does in-state hurt in that regard?
On the plus side, you can root for Pitt and don't have to deal with pretending to like the Buckeyes.

She’s my second - and last - kid to go to college. My son is starting his junior year at Ohio University. He’s a basketball manager there and loves it. It’s weird to be home in an empty house with me and the dog, but my trip to Portugal will be a nice distraction.
The admission process at OSU was strange. We never got a definitive answer about it, but they were pushing hard for her to start at OSU Newark and transfer to main campus her second year. She hated that idea and I don’t blame her. That’s not really a campus as much as it’s some random buildings with no character in the middle of nowhere. I do think there probably was some weird quota about in-state, southeast Ohio thing that played against her, but I’m really not sure.

Agree. Figured it'd be a dump like Cincy or Louisville, but looked more like a campus right next to Central Park on the Upper West side. Walking that hill to soccer and baseball games would suck...and they shoulda kept the old school football stadium.
