All the experts said we would have empty shelves, high inflation, and a major Recession.  What's happening?  Also, they are giving away beef now at stores.  1st eggs and now beef, life can't get much better.  It's like the experts don't know sh#t about anything?

@snarlcakes 🤣 Anyone with a functioning brain not ate up by TDS knows Trump has been light years better than Biden and his crew of radical leftists however I have not seen these price drops anywhere. Everything looks expensive as hell to me.  Wages will have to go up a ton. Are they?

I wonder how many people stores have had to hire to give away all that free beef.

Maybe this (the one-month "surge") will help with jobs because manufacturing jobs have been in free fall since "Liberation Day."

Sharon: Hello, Schnucks...do you have crab legs?

Store Manager: Yes, Ma'am.

Sharon: (giggles) Isn't it hard to walk around?

(PS - That's not the best crab legs joke in the world, but it will do in a pinch.)

I presume you aren't interested in a serious discussion, but if we unpack the details, here are some things to think about:

  • Great production figure: "The January reading of the Production Index (55.9 percent) is 5.2 percentage points higher than December's seasonally adjusted figure of 50.7 percent and the highest since it reached 58.1 percent in February 2022."
  • Strong current demand and likely momentum for future manufacturing:
    • The Backlog of Orders Index registered 51.6 percent
    • "The Customers' Inventories Index reading of 38.7 percent is a 4.6-percentage point decrease compared to December and the lowest since it registered 35.2 percent in June 2022."

Now, that said, you correctly pointed out that one or two months (December had some strong positives for a slow month) don't necessarily reflect a trend. We need to see if things continue - much of that is dependent on if this administration calms down on its reactions and decisions (unlikely) or provides clarity around tariffs and other measures.

I'm a proponent of free trade and was vocal, along with Ranger, Twenty, etc. about decisions and how they were made in 2025. But, the manufacturing recession started with Biden (your own article literally said as much). Look at the PMI data.

On the plus side, manufacturing accounts for less and less of economic production and output, though it remains a strategically important sector for obvious reasons. In addition, there is less and less of a need for low skill jobs with the increasing output generated by automation and smart manufacturing. As I've stated over and over, we don't want to manufacture everything. Stick with the high value segments and products.
