It’ll fail even if the House votes to impeach him. The process is the same as for Presidents for conviction in the Senate and they won’t get the necessary two thirds vote even though several Republicans have expressed dissatisfaction with him. The guy shouldn’t have been confirmed in the first place. Although conviction after impeachment won’t succeed, I predict his time as SecDef won’t last very long after the midterms.

In the current political environment, it absolutely takes guts and belief in one’s principles to go after a Trump appointee from your own party - especially when you were elected from a newly-red state.
I recall the Dems raising hell early in this conflict about Trump needing Congressional approval to conduct “war,” but that has gone silent. I think it is reasonable to assume that the Executive showed the Legislative convincing proof of the nuclear weapon risks, but it’s an assumption because that stuff happens behind the “classified” national security door. (Of course, pure “poll”-based decision-making is also popular in DC!)
The argument about “illegal orders” is an old one - and often merely political. But when it comes to risking lives of soldiers only for good cause and only when they fight with the full support of their nation, I think it is a necessary debate. The Kennedy-LBJ approach made me skittish and untrusting.
