Estimating the total cost to rename the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to the Department of War is challenging, as there are no official public estimates for such a large-scale change. However, based on similar government renaming efforts, it's possible to project a range of expenses, taking into account the vast scope of the DoD's operations.

A key point of comparison is the congressionally mandated Naming Commission, which was tasked with renaming military installations and assets that honored Confederate leaders. That effort was estimated to cost approximately $62.5 million. Another source notes that an earlier plan to rename nine Army bases was projected to cost $39 million.

The Department of Defense, with its global presence and extensive infrastructure, is a far more complex undertaking than the renaming of a few bases. The expenses would go well beyond simple signage and would likely involve:

  • Signage: The cost of replacing official signs at hundreds of military installations, buildings, and offices worldwide, including the iconic Pentagon building.

  • Documentation and branding: This includes changing the name on all official letterhead, forms, seals, and publications. This would affect countless documents across the entire organization.

  • Uniforms and insignia: All uniforms, patches, and insignia that bear the "Department of Defense" name or seal would need to be updated. This is a massive undertaking, given the hundreds of thousands of active-duty personnel and reservists.

  • Digital assets: All digital infrastructure, from websites to internal databases and software systems, would need to be updated to reflect the new name. This is a complex and potentially costly process, as the DoD has a massive and intricate network of systems.

  • Operational changes: The name change could necessitate other operational or legal adjustments. This would include updating countless contracts, agreements, and legal documents.

  • Miscellaneous expenses: This includes the cost of labor for the changes, new merchandise, and all other minor branding updates across the organization.

While a precise figure is not available, reports suggest the total cost could be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, far exceeding the cost of previous, more limited renaming efforts. Critics of such a name change have argued that it would be an unnecessary expense and a distraction from the department's core missions.

Wasn't one of DJT's campaign promises to keep us out of wars?

Maybe calling it the war dept makes it more difficult to fund?

He was going to end the Russian war in 1 day...still waiting for that to happen.

That's right up there with Mexico was going to pay for the wall.

No numbnuts. In a market economy, you are paid less than your productivity would dictate. Businesses can't operate otherwise. Unless you are a ward of the state like Aloha.

Yes. The complete collapse of the market economy and millions of rent seeking federal workers is worse than a name change.

Ward of the state? You're an ignorant dipshit. You prove over and over that your ignorance doesn't deter you from posting about shit you're totally ignorant about.

I’m ignorant? Because you were in the Navy 15 years ago, no one is allowed to voice an opinion on the military that you disagree with without being called ignorant.

How do I even know you were in the Navy? You’re a stranger. Is it because you shoehorn it in whenever possible?

The worst type of veteran. “Everybody remember to thank me for my service, did I mention I was in the Navy?”

I take exception that I had to fund construction and maintenance of a battleship so Aloha would have something to do that made him feel important. Not to mention your pension and myriad other benefits.

And not once have you ever thanked me, the taxpayer, for funding your entire livelihood.

Yes, you are absolutely ignorant. Your posts on many matters prove it, but your ignorance has never deterred you. It's a hell of a thing to behold.

When someone thanks me for my service, I thank them for contributing to my retirement. If you were to thank me for my service, I'd tell you to go fuck yourself. I have less than zero respect for you. I despise ignorance in general and you're generally ignorant about most of the things you post about. Why don't you just STFU?

Instead of responding to my post on the merits “Here’s why I believe it’s important DoD engage in these non-combat activities” you opened your stupid mouth to call me ignorant for the umpteenth time. You should know by now that you have an embarrassment coming your way when you do that.

Don’t start shit and then bitch. Bitch.

LOL! You’re an ignorant POS. You claimed war fighting was all the DoD does and it was an ignorant statement. I provided some assistance to lead you to information that would make you less ignorant, but you obviously didn’t bother. You remain ignorant. Sadly you also aren’t smart enough to know you’re ignorant. STFU.
