@goat I love the fact that you guys are already whitewashing the USAID scandal as if it was an organization committed to humanitarian aid and not graft, progressive NGO self dealing, waste, advancing bizzare cultural depravity, etc.

Humanitarian aid can be managed through the state department, I know some shit libs might want their gravy train back, but no.

Speaking of gravy train, maybe Ukrainian drone makers should manage our military appropriations and Pentagon budget.

@unclemark That would be a disaster of a move.  Might as well go back to trannies in youth sports, defund, and open borders.  This is all very simple and I about shit when I saw it literally this afternoon.  An I DID THIS sticker of trump on the price at the gas station.

Dems MUST get away from the cultural insanity.  The messaging is so obvious:

He said costs were going to come down.  They didn't!

He said he wasn't going to police the world.  It's been non stop wars!

He said the tariffs would be good.  They're costing American businesses and in particular small businesses.  And every time he pretends he's sticking it to the foreign country he's sticking it to the small business owner who is YOU or YOUR NEIGHBOR.

He said gas prices would go down.  Well look!

And oh where is the healthcare alternative?  Premiums are soaring!

These NGOS, WHO, and all the other agencies people have lost faith in and don't want to fund.  They think they're as bad as the Somalians in Minny.

Crazy

You're both right. If the Dems get back into power, they should absolutely get USAID back up and running properly. It's one of the most important tools in our tool box for foreign policy. You can use guns to get what you want, or you can use charity to get what you want. Both work. But the charity costs far less, and it has the added benefit of making our system of government look appealing, which the gun tactic has so far failed dramatically at. Think about how we rebuilt Germany and Japan after WW2. That's what USAID done properly can accomplish.

That said, they shouldn't ever campaign on it. American voters don't understand what foreign aid is, or why it's important. If you give the average American voter the choice between sending $100 to a poor kid in bumfuck thirdworldistan or burning $50M to drop some bombs on the same, they'll pick the bombs every time, and then some of them will ask for extra bombs just for the lulz.

Dems should be campaigning on cost of living. Period. That's the end of it. The cost of living crisis destroyed any chance they had in 2024, and now it's 18 months later, and the crisis continues. They can blame the Repubs now! Do it! How this isn't the centerpiece of every single public statement every single Democrat at every single level of government makes is beyond me. You sit as a Democrat on the school board in Flathead County, Montana, and the local paper asks you why the voters should reelect you to help make decisions about their children's curriculum? Your answer should be, "Because gas and eggs are too expensive, and parents in this great state can't be expected to worry about curriculum if they are too worried about how to put together the money to feed their kids or drive them to school."

The election this year is so simple for the Dems, it's like doing a color-by-numbers where every box has same number and they only gave you one crayon, anyway, and, holy shit! it just happens to be the right crayon for that number! There's no reason for the Dems not to hit a grand slam on this one. So, obviously, they will find a way to fuck it up.

Democrats can't campaign on the cost of living  because they have no answers for it.  You really think the climate zealots are going to turn into drill baby drill? Or  Democrats are going to start calling for deregulation and turning on institutions that they advocate for? Your entire first paragraph is just a call for more government spending and waste, which wouldn't help with cost of living.

Corey Booker floated an actually good idea of eliminating income taxes for people making 100kish (not sure on the exact threshold)and that got quickly shutdown because Democrats aren't the party of affordability.  They're the party of more spending and less affordability so more and more people will rely on them.

@snarlcakes You don’t need a plan only “they did this.”   That’s enough for the average voter

It's not that bad, they need a plan.  By the way the price of oil will be back in the 50s at some point this year.  Write that prediction down in ink.
