A House Committee voted to hold Bill Clinton in contempt, with 9 Dems voting for on Bill and 3 voted for on Hillary. First, congrats to those voting for. Second, the no votes were wrong.
@arthur-dent Let it go. Bill was bad? 30 years ago? Maybe? Probably? He was getting blowies from an intern. What’s the point today? To balance the partisan ledger? Where were their parents? I have a teen daughter. If she told me something like this happened…. The pain I would mete out would make Mr Murdaugh look like a saint. If they were teens then and kept it they certainly had ample time as an adult to get their revenge. Criminally. Civilly. Epstein was offed. Died in shame. Countless abused got wealthy and their retribution for being taken advantage I’m tired of this distraction.
It is a rule of law question. Congress summoned him, legally. He either must appear, or go to a judge and get it quashed. He doesn't get to determine if Congress was right in the subpoena.
I do not expect any smoking guns in the files or the testimony. But Clinton has an obligation to appear and the DoJ has a legal obligation to publish the files. Neither gets to decide anything different.
Put on your lawyer hat, a client says they want to ignore a subpoena because everyone is sick of dealing with the issue, do you tell them it is fine to ignore it?
@arthur-dent I’m not a lawyer so there’s no hat I can put on. Just a dirty old broad enjoying a Tini waiting for the weather and her fortunes to change.
I do like playing pretend tho so I’ll indulge. My client, Big Bill, the 🐐, didn’t get a subpoena from DOJ. He got a subpoena from congressional reps cosplaying lawyers, investigators, and smart people with records that God only knows the degree of spoliation they’ve endured wanting to ask me, Big Bill, a really smart guy, questions from a collective of dummies when three decades have passed to do this stuff.
Let a judge decide if I’m in contempt. F em. Or refer it. If I get a Doj subpoena I’ll appear.

Id vote no. The congressional Epstein investigation is a total waste of time. Epstein investigation has absolutely no congressional or legislative purpose. Epstein is irrelevant. Congress is not a criminal justice agency. Let the DOJ do what, if anything, needs to be done and Congress should get back to, you know, legislating.
Im sick and tired of all these stupid silly-assed congressional investigations that don’t accomplish anything except to allow congressional morons to get on TV. Sadly, the Democrats have promised dozens more Trump administration investigations should they gain a majority in the midterms.
Ugh.
@co-hoosier I think you are completely missing a point. Did he operate a completely illegal operation? Was this operation hiding in plain site, in front of many of the world's most powerful men?
Maria and Anna Farmer contacted the FBI and NY state police. No investigation began until 2006. It was stopped by the US Attorney for southern Florida in 2007, before public pressure from a news story had it reopened. Giuffre has stated that Epstein said that he owns the police.
So, do you know exactly who was involved and how he was protected for 10 years? Please post that information so we all know.
You know the conspiracies, he was a foreign agent, he blackmailed men. Do I believe them, no. But they are serious enough that we need to make sure he wasn't trading state secrets.
This was a failure at multiple levels. Again, he was reported to 2 different agencies 10 years before an investigation. Maybe you don't care how the system totally failed. But I think if it failed them, it may be failing now. Some of the people involved may still have positions of power. Not just involved with the girls, involved in protecting Epstein. If they made sure he was protected how do you know drug dealers aren't offering them similar deals today?
Clinton was prez when this started, knew Epstein. Did he exert pressure? Can you state categorically he did not?
@arthur-dent The investigation started earlier than in palm beach. They were getting girls from Royal Palm Beach High School. A bunch of them. Like more than a dozen. The transcript of a 16 yr old was found in his bedroom. He was indicted. There were also a ton of civil suits. I just ageee with Coh. These people in Congress are so totally useless. From Jan 6 to this it’s just a sideshow.
@sharinincarmel I have been the #1 proponent that there were no records on who was involved with the girls. But there may be evidence of who was involved if there were a cover-up. You mentioned Palm Beach was earlier, were charges brought after the indictment? Why did the FBI sit on it? Why did NY?
It may be incompetence. If it was, it was. But we need to rule out that presidents, congressmen, senators, captains of industry made phone calls. Did Epstein pay bribes? If so, to whom? Why did he say he owned the police? By appearance, he did. Why is that totally unimportant? Again, it may be incompetence, but shouldn't we know and not guess.
We know conspiracies feed on silence. No one is rushing to release the files ordered by Congress. That just feeds the, "something is being hidden" industry. Let's bring it all out.
I get it, Republicans are worried Trump is in there. I doubt he is, but if he is, shouldn't we know that? And if he isn't, shouldn't we know that? I am tired of arguing with moonbats that there is no proof on Trump and with wing nuts that there is no proof on Clinton.
If Congress is useless, they won't be doing anything more important anyway. I remember George Will saying how happy he was when Congress couldn't get together to pass anything. But if you don't ascribe to Will, and I am sure CO no longer does, does anyone really think one committee having a few days of hearings jams up all of Congress?
@arthur-dentrthur-dentrthur-dent Yeah he went to jail for over a year. Palm beach county jail. That was a mess and I forget the details. He had Ken Starr, yes that one, Roy Black and an entire dream team. FBI investigation. Feds. State. All of it. Then here’s where I forget. There was a non prosecution agreement entered I thought at both state and federal level yet I think he pled to felonies and did over a year in jail.
Personally I think Joe Biden did something bad. I think he used his political power to prevent an IRS etc investigation into him and his family. Could Clinton have done the same? Sure. Trump? Of course. All of these people have different rules.
If all of this stuff that has been around on Epstein matters to you and you want Congress to proceed that’s fine. Who am I to say what should or shouldn’t matter to you. For me it’s old news. Been around forever. There’s more pressing things to worry about
You are all over the place. Is Epstein a failure of government? Likely. Did people get away with criminal conduct? Likely. Can Congress do anything about this. Nope.
From Gonzales, to Holder, to Garland, to Bondi, we have a rich history of highly partisan AG’s who hadn’t hesitated to use the power of their office for politics. Congress can’t do anything about it. This isn’t a system failure, our system is fine. It’s a people failure which is the natural product of low-IQ and highly political office holders in the executive and legislative branches. Politics is now seeping into the judicial branch. We are screwed.
If anybody committed Epstein related crimes, let the DOJ do its job, if it can or even wants to.
That being said, Congress will proceed with this and more dumb-assed hearings because hearings is where stupid people get on TV and where the politics and fundraising is.

"Self-made" apparently means self-surgery. A bold move, to be sure, that "they" whacked off "their" own micropenis.
I would think that a Carmel resident could afford to have medical professionals do the deed!
