@co-hoosier I asked chatgpt if it’s well suited to maieutic guidance…
It would be interesting to see how ChatGPT did in guiding you through one of your complicated court case dilemmas.
I engaged in an interesting Socratic discussion With ChatGBT about Einstein’s imagination quote. I couldn’t copy and paste so here is a brief summary.
Q. What do you think of Einstein’s imagination quote?
A. It’s a popular quote. The Danger is placing too much reliance on it instead of knowledge. Then it turned the tables on me and asked:
Q. What do you think of it?
A. Without imagination knowledge is simply useless data. Imagination is vital to use Data
Q. That’s a sharp observation. Data is objective and provides the basis for using knowledge. How do you use Knowledge.
A. Knowledge can be selectively applied to support anything.
Q. General agreement.
After a couple of more questions and answers ChatGBT finally admitted that it cannot imagine, it can only predict or foresee based on existing data.
I can see where anybody can use AI to exercise their own brains and explore any idea. That would be fun.
Edit: Chat GBT would be a great foil to have discussions with. It can go on without ever mentioning TRUMP! Or posting a stupid snark. Chat GBT could replace this board.
@co-hoosier ChatGPT again.
My question:
Can AI discover new knowledge based on its current learning model?
Honest answer! Confirms my impression that AI can’t by itself verify truth values, so it’s vulnerable to the fallacies of appealing to Authority and circular reasoning without “knowing” it.
As for your experiment, one other concern I have with AI-guided learning is confirmation bias. Will the AI inadvertently lead you in the direction you want to go?

As delighted as Gervais is with the AI’s flattering description, wouldn’t most or all comedians want the same description?
So my question for you is, did you sense the AI taking your answers and then leading you where you wanted to go?
@co-hoosier
An interesting irony in its answer about not having consciousness and awareness, and such human traits. Of course a basic human trait is aware of being aware.
My first thought above was, OK, so the AI is aware of not being aware. But it’s not! We can’t fall into the trap of personifying AI. The correct statement is, according to the human sources tapped, AI is not aware. (I intentionally used the passive because there is no I in AI. Notice above: “Including models like me.”)
Allow me to meme that:
There is no I in AI!
In all seriousness, this AI stuff scares and depresses me. I think we are on the cusp of change that is exponentially faster, will accelerate more, and will change things much more fundamentally than the internet--and I don't think we have handled that particularly well.
I fear for my children and have no idea what subject they should learn or profession to enter that will be interesting and not obsolete in 20 or so years.
Probably lots more to come.
