Agree that Trump is much more substantive now than in his first term.  He was a fish out of water in his first term. He learned.  I think Trump has appointed the best overall cabinet in my lifetime.  These people are all very  effective at what they are doing.

Other than Blondi.

@co-hoosier Oh man... Bondi and Hegseth are utterly awful...just awful.  And then having McMahon and Noem in the roles he has them in, is questionable at best.  Both very impressive women, but neither have an ounce of expertise in the areas they're now in charge of.

I do think there are some good people on the Cabinet too though.  But you're an old dude, lots of cabinets to choose from.  Best cabinet in your lifetime, with Bondi and Hegseth on it???  Really?

Some of his cabinet are good, but "best overall" is crazy hyperbole. Hegseth, Bondi and RFK are horrible picks, and Patel was too (not in the cabinet). Major Hegseth may be the worst and most unqualified SecDef in my lifetime. He's fired people for doing nothing but carrying out the lawful orders of the previous CinC and SecDef. He's politicized the military. He lied about putting classified information into that infamous Signal chat. He did and all but the stupid or willfully ignorant in DoD (or the Department of War, as Hegseth and the President call it) know he did and that he is a dishonorable liar.

i

I read all of your posts.  I must say this drives me away.  I would enjoy an honest forthright discussion about Trump.  This isn’t that:

MAGA has been about off the hook emotions, incivility, hostility to fellow Americans who happen to be Democrats, (mostly) imagined grievances, paranoia and conspiracy theories, and unhealthy devotion and loyalty to an incredibly rich man who obviously doesn’t care two shits about most of us to take care of them.

I believe every word of what I posted wholeheartedly. I honestly think it's objectively true.

PS, this isn't about every self-identified MAGA leaning Republican, but it's about a very concerning heavy majority of the devoted MAGAs.

@aloha-hoosier RFK is a quack.  But disrupting that segment isn't the end of the world, I'd say.  Hegseth, as you pointed out, is mind blowingly awful.  And he probably isn't even the worst...Bondi probably takes that.

And when you put people in charge of things like Education and Homeland Security, that have literal 0 experience in those areas... well... its one way to do it, I guess?...

The Noem one is hilarious, to me.  Probably one of the least impacted states in our union, when it comes to Homeland Security... no oceans, no big cities... Buuuut, she said nice things about me so, here you go!, protect us all from things you've never seen or heard of!!

I don’t advocate for Trump.  I never have.

I do two things . . ..

First I advocate for his policies I agree with, which are many, and;

Second I make fun of the silly nonsense that passes off as criticism of he or MAGA. That is very entertaining.

Give me one good reason why I should ever mention birther?  If you think Trump’s rise in popularity has anything to do with birther, you are mistaken.  Obama was an effective president, and we are learning now that he was worse than being ineffective. His birth status is way down the list of his problems.

What do you think about the stolen 2020 election conspiracy theory? What about the unprecedented number of Executive Orders and the vast expansion of Presidential power? We both complained about that during the Obama Presidency, but this President has "trumped" that bigly.

This term the President has mostly shutdown illegal immigration at the southern border, and I think that's great. He's done a few normal Republican things too, which is nice. What are his other policies that you admire so much?

By the way, the birther thing was, and is, very popular among many MAGA. I still see social media posts from MAGA claiming that Obama was never not born in Hawaii and not a US citizen. It's important to them, though I've never understood why.

The # of EO’s he has issued are not unprecedented.

More than any President in my lifetime. And it's also about the substance of them. An order to lower flags to half staff is not the same as an order to pardon people that assaulted the police on January 6 2021.

@aloha-hoosier

of course some are better than others. I stand by my comment it is best over all. I’ve made this remark a few times, and nobody has cited a better group.  Just cherry picking is not convincing

Yeah, Noem is from SD. So what?  A good executive is mostly about being decisive. taking risks, and being creative. I have never heard a health Secretary talk about the health of Americans the way Kennedy has. His predecessors are mostly about regulating everything from big pharma to us. If people can’t find things to criticize an Executive for, then the executive is not doing their job. Even Hegseth, whom II agree could be one of the worse picks, is returning meritocracy to where it should be.

I assume you are SERIOUS?

Wow, just wow.  So many completely incompetent people.  RFK Jr. Bondi. Patel. Noem, Leavitt.... I could go on and on. Just a long row of dunce cap wearers, Barbie girls, or otherwise smart guys like Rubio, guys so scared of crossing the big guy that they long ago had their nuts cut off.

Most of those executive orders are not executive orders. EO’s  have a specific meaning that Trump obfuscates.

@shooter With regards to Rubio... I think there are probably a decent amount of people that have chosen to swallow their feelings for Trump, himself, to remain relevant in the GOP...and with an honest desire to continue serving their country.  He might apply to this stuff?  Vance possibly as well.  We'll see how people like them handle Trump dynamics when he's no longer the POTUS.  Personally, them "falling in line" and serving under Trump, isn't anything disqualifying going forward, for me.

I know the difference. I've actually explained the different types of Presidential actions on the old WC as far back as the Obama years. I've linked the Executive Orders of Biden and Trump as well. Here are President Trump's:

Executive Orders – The White House

By the way, the one designating the Department of Defense as the Department of War is particularly stupid and very costly. It's Department of Defense legally since soon after WWII and he can't legally change that by EO. Also, rebranding would cost 10s of millions of bucks if we actually did it. They've already changed the website which Major Hegseth uses as his personal page:

U.S. Department of War

The Pentagon is not happy with this, and I say that not because of this article, I say it because I still talk to people in the Pentagon and within DoD (DoW):

Pentagon officials fume over Trump's costly ‘Department of War’ rebrand - POLITICO

I also haven't run across a single senior official that has any real personal respect for Hegseth. Of course, they won't say that publicly. However, they know he's a liar who can't be trusted with highly classified information and that he's in it for himself.
