Here I thought nabbing Maduro was the jewel in this admin's foreign policy crown but it's (likely) just more crazy shit.  This deal, if as reported, is insane and will never last.  Will probably even push Venezuela further towards political extremes.  Looking forward to hearing non-populist members of the GOP discuss this after the election.

My fave part:

"In the event of a dispute, Venezuela can’t challenge the deal in its own courts. The agreement dictates that any conflict between the company and the United States must be settled under U.S. law, not Venezuela’s. The two sides even spelled out that any civil case or arbitration must be argued before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, where Trump’s Justice Department has turned, time and again, for favorable rulings.

Where U.S. law does not apply, Texas state law governs, the agreement states."
