@evanalvarez8 I think as long as Isak hasn't left, Newcastly is a good bet.  Not sure how happy he is about his situation though.  Chelsea is a good bet though.

Anyone in the Indy area watch games at local bars?  I haven't, but considering two of my girls will now be in college my opportunities may be opening up.

Yeah the Isak situation isn't pretty. Hopefully it works out for all involved.

Also, wish I was in the Indy area - would love to meet up! Would be cool to get a Hoosier Huddle Soccer Crew going.

La Liga has been on ESPN+ for quite some time if I recall correctly. They broadcast it well and I haven't had many complaints. I'm a Celta Vigo fan as well so I go on there frequently. Looks like Disney is just expanding their offering to more platforms! Not complaining one bit! More exposure for soccer = 100% a good thing.

Can anyone explain to me why certain teams in Europe (I'll use Dortmund or Sporting) consistently develop players and then transfer them making a nice profit?  Isn't the purpose of the game to win?  When you have great players but you hand them over to teams with deep pockets aren't you taking a step backwards?  Or is this about the weak link theory in soccer that you're only as good as your weakest player?  So having a team of more value players vs being top heavy is a better way to run your team?

Sounds a lot like A's Moneyball theory.  How often do those teams ever win big though?  I suppose you could make examples of the Pacers recent run the finals by having a deep team with fewer weak links.  Even Dortmund made a run in the Champions league a couple years ago, but without those two stars.  But damn if Dortmund didn't have a couple of the biggest stars in soccer at the same time (Haaland and Bellingham).

Can anyone make sense of developing great players only to sell them off and start rebuilding again?  Is this just about business vs winning?

Ok I'll shut up and listen now.....hope my little rant makes sense.

@eppy99 It is frustrating sometimes if you're a fan of these teams, but money can do a lot of things. If someone throws $75M+ at you for a player, it's hard to say no. So, you take that money, reinvest it, and try to make more of those kinds of players.

For teams like Sporting/Benfica, it's harder to make money without a shiny media rights deals like the prem has, so selling players becomes your biggest source of income.

It sucks, but you gotta make money. And if you can do it over and over and over again, it can start to pay dividends where you can have a run like Dortmund's had where they were champions league runners up in '13 and '24. Not many teams can ever say they've reached a UCL final twice in the 21st century (and Dortmund won in 1997).

tl;dr - non-huge teams need money, player sales are very lucrative, success can still be had with good leadership

Also, sometimes players force the move. If a player is incredible, he may not want to play in Portugal his whole life - he wants to play with the best and the best are in England, for example.

@evanalvarez8 That's a fair point.  Players want to win consistently at the hightest level.

For anyone that enjoys fantasy sports, have you ever tried fantasy soccer?  The premier league runs fantasy soccer.  I'd consider starting a league for board members here if there was enough interest.  Not sure yet if you have to manage the league week to week, but this is the first I've considered playing.

https://fantasy.premierleague.com/

So it looks like you pick a 15 man squad with a 100 million budget.  Each gameweek you pick a 11 person lineup based on your formation (4-4-2, 3-4-3, etc.). You pick one sub incase a player doesn't play.

Those are the basics.

Will be hard to ignore the Wrexham story this year, so I guess it will be fun to see if they can get promoted.

Yamal Lamine.  He loves that cut left across and bending a shot into the goal.  I think everyone knows which we he’s going and still can’t stop the move.

I’d like to find a YouTube clip of the top goals of the week and post it weekly.

@eppy99 You'd need to include both of Richarlison's beauties (especially his second) from Saturday's 3-0 win over Burnley for Tottenham Hotspur (my beloved club). Splendid move from Kudus to get to the byline, a perfect cross to Richarlison and a world-class finish from Richarlison on the volley.
