Pretty sure that photo is not of Mercer.  He's #22.

I just got an email from Mercer (he sends out mass emails with updates every 3-4 weeks to season ticket holders and anyone in his database) and the language he used made it seem as if he will be back next year.  So if a decision has been made, it hasn't been passed on to him yet, which is fine, I guess.  But with no postseason ahead, it would have been fine to let him know this week that we were going to make a change.  But also nothing wrong with waiting until Sunday or Monday to pull the trigger.  But they NEED to pull the trigger.

@gros-louis I’ll change the picture, but the photo caption said it was him.

@thehoosierhuddle just spitballing, and I don't know how well he would be received but....

Wonder if there's any chance of Chris Lemonis returning.

@thehoosierhuddle It's definitely not him.

we sure it isn't him?  Definitely doesn't look like #3 Cal Gates.

The caption says it is from 2019.  Weatherford (who I think it is) and Mercer do look very similar, so I think it was an honest mistake by whomever took the photo 7 years ago.

Soooooo, does no news mean he's back? Or is it too early? Surely Dolson has a plan and a guy on deck, right?

@bucketgetter The longer it goes without a move, the more it would seem one isn't being made. However, the Big Ten Tournament hasn't even start yet. It may be much different timing than football or basketball, where Mercer may have been let go in mid-April (March?)

I'm hopeful that the fact that Dolson is at the B1G spring meetings in Cali is the only reason for the delay. Otherwise, we an no longer, with a straight face, say that we take winning in baseball seriously.

It would seem that Mercer is staying. I believe they have a couple of transfer commitments already.

Over the last 40 or so years IU has had some decent baseball coaches. Bob Morgan fielded competitive teams over his 20+ years. Tracy Smith followed and got Indiana into the national prominence picture. Chris Lemonis did fine as the Hoosiers were in the NCAA tourney in 3 of his 4 years.

Jeff Mercer started well with a Big 10 title in his initial year and my hope was that he'd build upon that success. The last couple years haven't been so good. 2027 may be his last as the Indiana baseball coach if he can't get things turned around.
