@hoosiers94 IU basketball is now claiming moral victories? My lord, how the mighty have fallen. If the Hoosiers lose at home tonight, watch out; it's not going to be pretty.

Scratch that. I doubt many people would be in a huff over the outcome of a secondary sports team's game.

IU should win in a blowout.  It doesn’t make for a very compelling game to watch.

The guys on facebook were claming moral victories under woodson also. It is tough to even red them many were just fine losing to UL the  usual excuses were used like its a new coach, new team, give him a few years, etc. Same old excuses as always. Last I checked the whole starting lineup is seniors so at least they cannot say they are too young.

@gthomas if so I would hope its actual buyer's remorse and not Holtmann's buyer's remorse because he was hyped to the moon on these sites throughout Archies tenure despite not doing much of anything and eventually getting fired.

DDV needs to win (and soon) regardless of what others are doing. Comparing side-by-side in real-time doesn't usually tell a full picture.

I really hate that this turned into a Woody/bash the new coach thread.  It could have been something so much better.

I’ve got your back, Hooky.  While much of coach Knight’s points from the video are extremely high level, it’s amazing to me how relevant they are to success in just about any endeavor.  Much like CIGs “people, plan and process” musings, nearly everything Coach Knight espoused in that video translates readily into the business leadership world.  In my world, we are always promoting acquisition of the right people, stacking hands on the right plan and then, as a leader, holding the people accountable to the execution of said plan. These are principles that can be followed for success in business or life in general, and that’s why they resonate so strongly with the public at large, in my humble opinion.  When I hear Cig speak, it amazes me how much he sounds like the great CEOs I’ve encountered in my career, and Knight was no different. I would have happily attempted to run through a brick wall for either of them.

New to the board? Chronic complainers chronically complain.  Its how they prove to themselves they're true fans. Like bunch of spoiled children who didn't get a cookie.

Couldn't agree more.  I think Cignetti and Knight both provide great lessons in leadership.

@hooky And the ability to motivate just through their demeanor as well.  Neither guy seems particularly rah rah, so when they do give you a pat on the backside, you know it really means something.  If you get a chance, watch the segment from 60 minutes with Dan Rather interviewing Knight back in the early 80’s on YouTube.  There’s a 30 second clip of Knight talking during a timeout that could motivate a corpse.  Knight says something about how they’ve played some great basketball and in order to win the game he needs them to give him everything they’ve got left for the next five minutes and after that, they’ll “just survive on guts”.  Can you imagine hearing those words from that guy in that moment?  Talk about running through a brick wall.  Hell, I’m getting pumped just thinking about it.

I know exactly what you mean. Coach Yeagley was that way.  He had a presence when he entered a room. At practice he didn't really raise his voice much at all. But you knew whether out of awe , admiration, respect , fear , nerves whatever it translated into results. And inspired us all to reach levels we didn't think we had. He said to us once , when you think you're done or out of gas you have 40% left.. you have to find a way to unlock that next gear

I knew the Snows a little bit through their sister.  I never heard either of them say anything negative about him.  Not even a little petty gripe or bitch.

A bit part of Coach Knight's genius was to not just understand X's and O's but the finer principles of wining.  I don't know if coaches these days, in any sport, understand those things.

@auburnhoosier Coach Knight knew a lot of history, he especially studied military history and war strategy. He could have an informed conversation about any of the major battles in the Civil War and the World Wars and probably many others.

I saw the thread title and assumed it was about football. My mistake.

Carry on.
