@hozo4ultimate I agree. IU needs to play to play these next 5 games to start making more accurate assessments. Bethune-Cookman will not indicate much but the two Big 10 games, Louisville and Kentucky on the road will give a fairly accurate assessment of the team.
@hoosiers94 once again, not Bailey's fault that CDD didn't find another dog underneath to rebound, defend the paint and occupy the other teams 5. Bailey is not, and never has been that guy and if we had a guy like that to add into the mix, I think it could really unleash Bailey. He's the best ball-handling and passing big we've had, probably since Jeffries. Maybe I'm forgetting someone, but he's got a really good skill set.
I'm with IUN, hard for me to understand how CDD couldn't convince Hansberry to come to IU with him vs VA Tech. But, I'd guess there was something there that one of them didn't like. And, didn't need to be him or even a star, just someone rugged who would defend and rebound. Otherwise, I think CDD put together a really good and multi-skilled roster.
I know it's not his fault. It's a roster construction issue but it's what we have. And I still don't think it translates into success once conference play begins. We played better last night. No doubt but KState either played the shittiest game of their year thus far or they aren't that good. I think the latter. I'm not trying to take away from the fact that we played well. We did , and it showed. We are the better team we did what we were supposed to do. I hope we continue to have that same energy and success going forward night in and out. But it doesn't change the fact that Bailey when in the floor is playing the 5. At least defensively and if not it's the 4. Either way it's a mismatch most nights. Is what it is , he hit 13 free throws. Had only 4 rebounds. ... he's 6'10". He could 4 rebounds like falling off a log
@hoosiers94 Alexis is a site to see in person. He will get better and better. I think he can bang with a lot of bigger guys. Hopeful he stays healthy.

Could also be that we defended them pretty well too, which I think we did. I thought Connerway would be on PJ, but glad it was Enright and he did well. Gives me hope for other B10 teams. I think it can be a lot to ask to have Connerway have to defend the other teams top guard and still run the offense and score. Thought that affected Galloway last year. Also really like how the team rebounded, which is what we're going to have to do. Imperfect roster, so everyone's going to have to chip in on D and rebounding.
@kkott it was not Conor that stopped PJ in the 1st half. He was not trying. Watch the game again. The player you saw about 5-10 mins in to the second half was completely different. He was driving at will and was pissed. 1st half he was MIA. Not because of Conor. And Conor played good like I said.

B1G games......when we shoot the ball well and don't turn it over, we'll be competitive
otherwise.......
@cavanagh A dialed in Haggerty has proven that not many college level guards can slow him down. So he was definitely off his game last night. Conor was never going to "shut down" Haggerty. What he did though, which he often does, is forces good guards to have to exert quite a lot more energy than they do against most other defenders, to be as effective as they're used to being. Haggerty, I'm sure, looked at Conor and relaxed at the start of the game. When he fully figured out that Conor was a legit defender, he kicked it in, and you saw the difference.
I'm not sure you've ever either given credit for, or understood, how impactful defenders like Conor, and yes Leal, are. Seems like most games they play in you're forced to say things about how the guy they were guarding "just wasn't in to the game". That is a true statement, but Conor had a lot to do with that. There are a lot of ways to get going in a basketball game. Haggerty usually figures it out quite a lot more quickly than he did against Conor and IU. And the list of guys last year that underperformed against Leal is pretty long.

there a guys that don't have the 5* "talent" or are gifted with the great natural physical ability
but they are smart and know how to compete
every team needs those guys
when you get a team full of those guys and some talent thrown into the mix
now we're talkin'

Enright got his 4th foul with 9 left. Watch the film, Enright was obviously bothering him and making him uncomfortable before his little splurt.

The bottom half of the big and especially the bottom 3rd looks pretty bad, to be honest. Those teams are definitely not any better than KSU or even Marquette.
About Bailey. Though theres a lot of flaw in his game, mainly strength issues. He's currently shooting 13 FT per 40.
To put that into perspective TJD was around 8 per 40 and Zeller around 9. Both are considered high numbers. Bailey is at 13. Which is exceptional.
It probably won't hold but even at 66% of that total it has impact. Considering that most of those fouls are on shot attempts .. it's appx 5 to 6 fouls drawn per 40 minutes.
Disclaimer: one reason it's that high is because he doesn't finish well and doesn't get and ones but still ..
@surjay the only teams in the BIG that I think will be very difficult teams for us to beat are Purdue, Michigan, MSU, and Illinois. The rest are beatable and some are downright bad.
Oregon is struggling. UCLA just lost to Cal, a team that Kansas State beat…
yeah but he only plays 20 minutes per game thus far which is pathetic imo for what we paid him and as a 6'10" starter. So he averages 6 FT per game. That's reality.
that doesn't move the needle and against better teams I'll bet he doesn't average more than 2 per game.
He only averages 3.7 rebounds per game, he's 6'10" for christs sake , Enright averages 4.0.
he's 6'1"
those numbers don't and won't extrapolate out. Cause he can't be counted on for 40 minutes. Hell he's been iffy to be counted on for the 20 he's played . Tucker and Lamar only averages 32 minutes per game
I always look forward to this time of year. Cav gets out his pom poms and the cheerleader skirt. There are dreams of grandeur and predictions of a top-3 finish in the conference. Other teams are trash and we will coast.
Then, we go out and lose to one of the worst teams in the league. This phenomenon has a real name: it’s called “Cav’s Kiss of Death”
Amd, it’s guaranteed.
This is not a top 4 team in the big ten not even sure it is top half. No depth. To slow.Watched a lot of the teams so far, IL and PU are the only teams I’m confident we aren’t as good as. We should be able to compete for top 4. Top 6 for sure.
OSU just won, but they are trash we will blow them out. Thank god we don’t have the choppin down trees goof in cupps. 🙏🏽
