The one thing I did really like from the clips I saw was Alexis. I think he will be a able to hold his own in the B1G.
yeah Thanks Einstein. I know how shooting works. Still not convinced. Weak argument. You been content with the last 25 years? Guess so... likely stuck in middle management too aren't you. I be content when the give me something to be content about... have you forgotten our run the last 25 years. Have nothing against this team nor the staff. Just not anointing them at this point.
I'm convinced. We have a coach. Pretty good first year roster. Not even worried about our forwards or inside game much anymore. It's going to be a good year.
I had said I really like Tayton with ball, and do. But Wilkerson has another gear, wow...
Maybe Coach has evaluated film before.
Good players with different skillsets, and a coach to figure out the combinations.
@hoosiers94 it's August and we've yet to see him play a game. What "groove" did he lose?
the one I was told he was on over the last 3.5 years. Would have been one of the top 3 names in the portal demanding big money. That groove. Show me the money ... look I hope he rocks it .: truly. Think you all are misinterpreting my point. I'm a doubting Thomas of Indiana basketball at this point until they prove it. The proverbial blind faith this is the year BS outlook .. not with me anymore. Been there done that. I'll watch every game with the hope to win. But don't tell me we gots a team here ... when I see it with my own eyes I'll believe
@hoosiers94 I think you and I are on the same page but coming from opposite directions. You are a doubting thomas, but a positive one. I lean to being a sunshine pumper but right now am a reluctant one. We both,as most on here, desperately want to get back to IU being what IU was. Is DD and this group the ones to get us going in that direction? I hope so but who knows. Way to early to tell. There are some good signs and there are some real concerns. I hope things move in the right direction so you can ease your doubts and I can fire up my pump. In the meantime it's nice to see the forums start flowing again.
@hoosiers94 forcing myself to be excited and optimistic about the season. It helps that we also have football to buoy the flowery feelings towards IU athletics, for the next few months. Obviously you're not "wrong", though. We've had numerous teams since RMK that have shown promise. Some of them fulfilled, for the most part, on that promise... most didn't.
From the highlights, the reports, etc... the one thing I'm most excited about is the offensive approach and style of play. Basically every highlight, I saw, had a wide open paint area starting the play, shooters spaced around the perimeter, and they included ball movement. Its been A LONG time since IU basketball's style fit exactly what top level HS/Portal players are looking to be a part of. It sounds like CDD plays a style that will attract the best players.
I do think the water in Bloomington is still special, to a certain extent. And I'm hopeful that for the first time in a LONG time, we have a coach that is playing how elite talent wants to play. There was no way for CDD to show recruits that, effectively, when he was trying to build this team. Yet he built it with what looks to be a very gritty, competitive, and talented group of guys...that more importantly, will lay the groundwork for CDD to sell IU basketball to the best of the best. The way recruiting cycles go, I predict he'll maybe get another higher level freshman before the season. But then when he has a season under his belt, he'll get a massive portal/late HS signee haul next spring.
this much we can agree on ..: much better coach than we've had in a while. System, although I've been unable to watch it, is much much better and more conducive to today's game .. the rest time will tell
@cavanagh Thought there was a lot more to like than just Alexsis, although I agree on him. Sisley far outperformed my expectations for a freshman. I think that year at MV did him a world of good and got him ready for the college game. Conerway reaffirmed what I hoped he could be: great driver using his body and disruptive on D, also impressed that Riscic (or whatever his name is) was able to contribute off such limited exposure.
@hoosiers94 I think most who said TD was that level of portal guy, meant pre-injury or if he returns to that form. Regardless, the guy knows how to play and will be an asset regardless, and showed it in PR. You say you are just trying to balance things, but not really. Reread your posts, 95% negative and latching onto things in a ridiculous light: bitching about shooting in a 50 pt win? You do you, but to me you're not a fan if you bitch about and nitpick everything and then are going to be on board IF we're good. That's not a fan. "This is your team". Support your team.
@kkott I’m putting zero stock in Trent. I have rarely seen guys of his skill set and frame do well their freshman year in the big ten. Can’t think of any off hand. Big ten is very physical and that usually takes some getting use to. I would be shocked if he contributed much this year.
@cavanagh I put Sisley in the bonus contributor category. He'll help our frontcourt depth if he can contribute, similar to Amicovic. But despite his performance in PR, I wouldn't expect him to break through and be a top 7-8 guy this year.
One thing I will say though... he's quite a lot more athletic than most give him credit for. And he did win Monteverde's MVP award. Down year for MV, to be fair, but their best players have routinely been pretty ready to contribute at the high major level.
It'll be nice if what he showed in PR, is what he provides when the season starts. But I doubt it. He'll be an anchor guy for us for 3-4 years though, hopefully. Need a few of those guys.
@cavanagh 6'8" 3 and D (R) guy on a team surrounded with other shooters provides a unique opportunity for him, compared to most freshmen. He's bigger and more athletic than Fletcher Loyer and he had a solid role as a freshman, although maybe not quite the shooter that Fletcher was. He's not gonna start, but great understudy for Tucker and it appears we might be able to count on him, and Ristic for shooting off the bench, based on what he did in PR.
We had a freshman lead us in scoring in minutes in an exhibition we won by 50? The Old Cav would have been projecting 1 and done, and certainly better than Romeo. What have you done with Cav? Damn AI is everywhere....
I’m optimistic until they prove me wrong, just not over the moon optimistic. Think their floor is 8th in big ten but no higher than 3rd. TD shot 20% from 3 but did you see where he shot 40% from 2, 80% from the ft line? Did anyone noticed that the TEAM avg’d 23.7 assists a game? Last yr our coach had to be reminded to go through and shake hands with the other team, our new coach was video’d going through and shaking hands with the fans who made the trip. (Granted it may have been only 10 people) these are the things that I look for but after the last 50 yrs, I’m not buying tix to the final four or even looking at hotels for the B10 tournament……yet😉
