Average ranking of top 25 teams: 155
There are 365 teams listed altogether. IU 3 point attempt % is #8. Our ranking of makes is #99.
Make % rankings for top 25 teams that shoot lots of 3s: St. Louis #2; Iowa St #3; TT #16; Miami OH #28; Arkansas #29; Virginia #71; Vandy #73; NEB #74; ILL #85; UL #127.
I cite all these #s to make 2 points. 1. There is no direct correlation between shooting lots of 3s and being a championship team; and 2. Shooting lots of 3s without making a relatively high % of them does not result in a championship level team.
Thus, my bitching about our crap shot selection all year. IF you're going to shoot lots of 3s, work the damn offense. DeVries always talks about it but I see way too many early shot clock or contested bombs, many from his own son. I agree with the poster who said we're better when TD takes fewer and more open 3s.

I also think CDD may have to adjust his approach playing at a higher level.
Think about it.....if you're at Drake (or at WV with a deficient roster) and have Duke, Purdue, and MSU back to back to back shooting 30 3s may not be a bad strategy. Hit 18 and you get a big upset. Hit 8 and you lose by 40, but who cares?
@mushroomgod He'll have to adjust, and bring in bigger, stronger, players, for sure. His offense isn't the issue, I don't think. I think his best players are all volume 3 point shooters. And we don't really have any consistently effective paint scorers, either guards that attack the rim, or bigs. The best teams in the country are almost always very balanced inside and out. Right now, we're overly reliant on 3 point shooters. That's more than a little bit more fun to watch than the post ISO stuff we've seen the last 4 years. But without the balance, you're much easier to guard. As we're seeing. Run IU off the 3 point line. That's the book that any team capable of doing it, will do.
Let's post up Wilkerson.

Yes...........and I don't think Conerway, who is the best at taking the ball to the basketball, is very good at kicking it out. He's very good for his size at finishing but not so great dishing it if he's stopped.....
Wilkerson's driving the ball more often and has a good touch for those little 5-6 footers in the lane. Sometimes he tries to take it too deep......he's not the best at finishing at the rim against tough defenders....

agree and agree.
TC isn't strong enough to do that. That's his limitation. Maybe in the sun belt but not here
and Lamar yes he sometimes goes too deep but lately I've seen finish some that I was amazed he did
Wilkerson has his flaws, but can you imagine IU without him this season? Yikes.
