What's most puzzling is why we are talking so much about a kid who walked away from our program ... over 2 years ago. Is Cavanaugh related to him?
@receipt-keeper
yeah. I'd say that's streaky.
0% 0% 20% 40% 0% no att 0% 50% 40% 0% 67% 100% 17% 50% 0% 67% 40% 29% 0%
those are the percentages he shot in the games you listed Hooky. At best it's very inconsistent. But I would say streaky. The streaks aren't long so that's why I say inconsistent.
And it isn't due to the level of competition either. It doesn't really correlate to that when you look at the game logs.

And comparing him to another kid who walked away from our program six years ago.
@cavanagh I don’t rely on AI, because there’s a lot of confirmation bias depending on what you type in to the search, and even depending on your other internet activities (message board discussions maybe). But having said that, basically every search I did with Tamar Bates and shooting mentioned that he was a good shooter, he has improved a lot, he was an efficient offensive player (this is a specific I’ve been wrong on)…but that he has seen periods of inconsistency throughout his college career. Many of them went as far as to use “streaky” in their descriptions.
Here’s one of them, as an example of many.
However, some have described his shooting as streaky. For instance, one source notes that while his catch-and-shoot abilities are solid, his reliance on them lead to inconsistencies if defenses are able to limit those opportunities. Additionally, multiple game stretches of poor shooting have been a normal occurrence throughout his collegiate career.
Despite all this…I feel like you’re not grasping what I’m trying to say. He’s good He’s become a good shooter. But he’s streaky. And that might scare off a lot of NBA teams. Especially when he started his “NBA career” 4-21, or whatever it was in summer league.
I’ll leave with this. I just texted a buddy of mine that’s a part of a college program that has played Tamar’s teams numerous times. Analytics type guy, not an assistant coach. I asked what was your scout on Tamar Bates.
First words… streaky shooter… then followed it with… can’t let him get comfortable, have to run him off line, away from dominant hand… can’t allow him to get going.
and also this…he had similar overall numbers to Kon Knueppel this past year. Knueppel was a first round pick because he was more consistent, and because of that, teams are much more comfortable with him as a scoring guard.
And the huddle made a free board. Well done Sammy and TJ.
but 15 Bucks is a steal. I’d imagine many of the freeloaders fork over a premium membership sooner or later. You guys do great work. Excited for football season. And obviously to educate everyone on how awful Romeo really was when he was here. Worst 3 point shooter ever if you haven’t heard. 😬
Nope, Bates not better. Peace.
@hoosiers94 I, too, find it odd that the most "popular" thread here involves two guys who will never do squat in the NBA. Oh well, such is the summer sports doldrums.
@gthomas it was popular because I started it as one of the first threads on here and started some old time jabs. Old habits die hard :). But yes the season will be here very soon. Excited to see what we got.
