@tjinman1987 Good info although Torvik certainly seems to be a bit on the optimistic side. Let's hope he's right. On another note, Lloyd Christmas has a far better chance than the Purdue Boilermakers have in winning the Big 10 football championship next year.

An 18-13 record would perfectly encapsulate the kind of program IU is over the last 20 years. At least it isn’t a losing record. 🙁

We should be playing in the second weekend at least 3 or 4 out of  every five years. But the program went so far in the gutter Woodson simply making the tourney and getting rocked by 30 was him claiming he did his job. And many were fine with that. Woodson made it twice and got rocked both times.

and for every team that you've listed that's had success with hiring a chance guy I could list 50 others that failed.  So what's the definition or the measure of success.  And how long do you put up with mediocrity.  See I think where you're at is due to a lack of not witnessing and really living the Knight years.  At least not with the presence of mind to remember the clout we had. The fear we struck into other teams.  The respect we had.
that's what those of us who did want back.  Making the tournament was not an accomplishment it was expected.  Winning the big ten was expected

so to put icing all over these teams today is like putting lipstick on a pig to those of us who witnessed those days.  Can we get them back? Sure proving to be a difficult task. You may say we have to start somewhere , maybe but that means there has to be a trajectory upward and continual and at a pace that's acceptable.  Today's game and market doesn't allow for patience.  Because you don't necessarily have to have it.  Just winning this game doesn't change my outlook of DK.  Make the tournament and win a game I'll sign up for next year.  And then next year had to eclipse this year and not by one game.  It's about the aura the respect the fear we instill in our opponent.  Cig only now has gained that for the football program. It took winning a national championship to get it.  As you saw most of the clowns at ESPN picked against us the entire run.  Even for the Miami game.  This was a good win. And against the right opponent for sure. Always a good one beating Purdue. But we cannot survive or should I say he cannot survive on just marquis wins against Purdue.  Woody did that for crying out loud.  Time will tell but I'm not seeing it

Woodson thought beating Purdue and making the tournament ( only to get rocked) made him some huge success in his eyes at least. I never understood his mentality since he played for Knight I would have thought he would of had much higher standards but I guess maybe it was an ego thing. I developed  apathy under archie and Woodson so winning two games  is not going to make me think all is well and everything has been turned around. Its like  you said we need to make the tourney and win a game or two at least for me to think things are maybe turning around.

Yeah and  when we got rocked by St. Mary's the excuses were we were too tired and had planned too many games in a short amount of time.  The problem with woodson was there was always an excuse no matter what.

One win against an overrated Purdue team and here come the sunshiners. IU has one Q1 win and one Q2 win. Pump the breaks a bit.

@gthomas I understand the sentiment but IU just went 16-0 and won the College Football National Championship and has back-to-back wins on the hardwood including a thumping on the road and a win over rival Purdue. I am rarely overly optimistic but I think sunshine feels quite appropriate for a few days!!!

@hoosiers94 Who should we have gotten, that we could have gotten?

You keep making these inferences... Stevens?  Dolson tried, twice.  I can't think of a single other coach that fits what I think you're trying to claim we should have done.  And no matter how nostalgic you are about the RMK hey day, its still not any higher than teams like Kentucky and/or UNC, present day...in terms of the lure of the job, the hype and following around the programs, recruits interest, etc... And they had to settle for what I'm sure was a plan C type of hire, in Pope...and are holding on to an obvious flawed coach in Davis.  And even RMK himself needed elite levels of talent, to have net cutting types of years.  I vividly remember 1989 on... its not possible to be more invested or involved as a fan, as I was those years.  The Bailey/Cheaney teams are my favorite sports teams I've ever followed.  But those intimidating teams stopped after Bailey graduated, abruptly.  I don't know if RMK would have had another run in him if things had been different.  But my logical brain says no.  He had lost touch with the elite players of that era.  Fab Five like dynamics took over.  RMK approach, with elite level players, basically stopped being a viable option.  He made NCAA tourneys, because he was a genius basketball coach.  But no team after the Cheaney years was up to his own lofty standards.  And I don't think any more of his teams would have been.  He had an absurd amount of talent on some of the mid 90s teams.  They didn't respond to him like prior era teams did.  And I hope you're not one that falls in to the trap of believing RMK won B10 titles, FF's. Natty's without talent.  He never won any sort of title without elite levels of talent.

So... who besides Stevens (if even him), guarantees those nostalgic peak RMK days would happen again... that RMK himself couldn't replicate in the end?

Beard... no better than CDD, and his teams are literally almost unwatchable.

Drew... maybe better than CDD, maybe not.  I strongly suspect now that NIL is in full force, and that leveled the recruiting playing field out, he won't have any more years like the run he had a couple years ago.  He wasn't all that good of a coach before Baylor.  And outside his Covid Natty team, he hasn't been all that good at Baylor.

McCollum... yep... wish we had gotten him.  But the consensus coming out of the search was that McCollum didn't want IU.

Dusty May is the real miss.  But complaining about CDD, has nothing to do with missing on May.

You have no idea if CDD is going to be successful at IU or not.  None of us do.  None of us have "seen enough" to know.  I've "seen enough" to know I enjoy watching this team play more than any IU team I've watched since the Cody Zeller years.  They're frustrating!  Really, really frustrating at times.  But every single game I've watched has included prolonged stretches of really fun play, and really cool concepts...maybe not including the Iowa game... ha ha.   But actually enjoying watching IU play again, is a big deal, to me.  And while I obviously have no clue if this is actually true... the basketball knowledge that I do have, is telling me that CDD is implementing some pretty strong fundamental elements in his program.  Things he'll be able to recruit to, things that will become even more fun to watch when the caliber of players raises a bit.  And it didn't take a future lottery pick scoring 35 off pick and roll ISO play all night, like the JHS win.  We had assists on 70+ percent of our passes.  We truly bothered a player that basically no other teams have been able to bother, defensively.

I'm not saying you're wrong about CDD.  I'm not saying I know I'm right.  I'm saying you don't know.  And there isn't anyone else out there we could have gotten that we'd have any more certainty than we do now.

Its pretty par for the course given the levels the program has sunk too. Woodson lost  I think lost 8 or 10 last season in the big ten  at one point before winning three in a row. After he won three in a row it was the same thing the sunshine came out big time. But this site isn't even that bad facebook is the worst I think they were ready to give Woodson a lifetime extension after the three game winning streak.  But Purdue will certainly drop big in the rankings after losing three in a row.

No that's not it. You're a chronic malcontent and define life by the misery you feel. At times even creating that misery out of thin air when there is none. Most of us aren't like that. No one is blowing sunshine up your ass, Sparky, except the imaginary voice you've created to have someone to argue with.

Can't even enjoy a win... sad, dude... gotta use it to bitch, moan and complain .. again.  Weird ..

Let it go ...

@scam-likely Only small people deconstruct opinions and make them personal. Malcontent? Really? So you're judging my entire being based on posts on a sports website? Gotcha.

As for not enjoying a win? That's true, just like I don't enjoy a loss. I'm apathetic, really, because I know how this season--and DK's tenure--will end. This movie isn't original.
