@redandrowdy 2001 was probably the only time it would have lined up for both schools.  Once he became entrenched at Louisville, there would have been really no reason for him to leave, for IU.  Plus the booths at Nicks probably aren't as comfortable as the ones at his favorite Louisville Italian restaurants.  And to be fair... in 2001, Davis was doing fine.  His first 2 years at IU, itd be hard to make any sort of credible case for firing him to hire someone else.  He won, and he was recruiting pretty well.  My serious doubts on him started in his 3rd year.  There were frustrations before then, like throwing a G-Damn 3/4 court trap at mother F-ing Steve Blake and Juan Dixon, after taking the lead in the national championship game with less than 10 minutes to go... That was Tom Crean zone offense ineptitude levels of bad... But even then, he had Bracey Wright and company coming in, and he started the following year winning Maui, and beating Maryland in Indy... through that early third season... Davis sure looked like he was gonna be successful at IU, long term, despite some head scratcher type moments.

Our very best chance ever to hire a big name coach was when we hired sampson. We hired a great coach but he was just too slimy instead we could of had Beilein and our program would have been in great shape for a decade. It was really the beginning of the end of IU hoops and since then every hire has been worse.
