When was the last time IU had a player who fit the "prolific scorer" label? In the last 20 years or so, the only guy I can think of who could drop 30+ on any given night is Gordon. Obviously Wilkerson isn't an EG-level talent, but he can score like a motherf-----.
I don't know the exact NIL numbers, but LW might be the only player on the roster who's actually underpaid.
Gordon came to mind. Different style of play. Lamar is such a good shooter and he had some great cuts to the hoop for layups too

Yes...he was comatose for about 8 games....looked like he was pissed off. Then comes back better than ever. Odd.
Bailey last night....15M, no rebounds 2 TOs, 3 fouls. He recently had a game when he was in 18 minutes, had no rebounds, and 5 fouls. He's effective about 1/3 of the time, when he has a favorable match-up or for some reason he's feeling his oats. Bad thing about him.....when he's bad, he's really bad. Even so, I will give him credit for working to block out last night. He perhaps helped some other guys get some boards.

Nice comparison....the style of play is not so different, just their builds. And like Gordon, Wilkerson is better when he does not settle for 3s (at least in college).

Not that bad on offense, but the D was an abomination. Purdue beat these guys by 4? WTF Matt?
You see some real potential. Maybe they can get their shit together for march? Good to peak then! Get TC playing to his max and we might have something.
I just don't see TC + CE playing together as our best line-up. And CE is so much better getting others involved, while TC is best going one-on-one and taking it to the basket. So imo CE is a better fit for the rest of the team.
Dorn is better now than I thought he could be, although he's not as good as that 10/12 game. Somewhere between that game and his games since. I like seeing him try to take it to the basket occasionally. He's still a one-dimensional player.
I continue to believe that Sisley is the wildcard that could elevate the team, but it sure doesn't look like it's going to happen this year. O points and 0 rebounds in 6 minutes last night. Good thing is he's keeping his head up and being a good teammate.
I will credit CDD and this team for making the team interesting enough to watch. That wasn't the case for much of the year.
@mushroomgod ya I never understood why we were playing 3 guards (TC LW and CE) made no sense especially because we were so small. TC has been in a funk, but when he is playing his best I’d like to see him on the court and CE off the bench. But CE has been much more consistent and you know what you are getting out of him and does get others involved better. Just very limited on offense.
@cavanagh I know you will vociferously nod your head in agreement with what Darian DeVries said last night about Sam Alexis (and, by extension, about Reed Bailey): "I think it's a little bit of us maybe figuring it out," DeVries said. "He's given us these last two games some low presence that maybe we haven't utilized enough to be honest with you. Sometimes as coaches you got to admit your mistakes."
He would later mention that they have been working on getting more paint touches via penetration, cutting and post-ups and plan on continuing to integrate that into the offense.
@tjinman1987 just like I need to admit about Conor being more valuable than I originally thought he is now realizing Sam is more valuable. Difference is this is my hobby and I don’t get millions to make the decisions 😬

TC has been in a funk, but when he is playing his best I’d like to see him on the court and CE off the bench. But CE has been much more consistent and you know what you are getting out of him and does get others involved better. Just very limited on offense.
Dorn was injured and had not practiced with the team much and there was no one else. We don't run many complicated actions, but in an intuitive offense like ours that has so many if/then options, there's going to be a learning curve where you can't just throw a player out there or it can really f*ck shit up .. one player out of place, early, or late can ruin a set on both sides of the court.
Conerway freezes the ball too much and also walks it up the court. He doesn't fit what IU is doing. He brings one notable needed ability - rim drives -but no synergy to the team. We get into actions much quicker with Enright, he doesn't freeze the ball and gets it up court and into the middle of the defense often. He fits .. Conerway is better player than Enright, but the team is better with Enright running point.

Great quote.......I have been concerned that he was too much of a 'player's coach' and wouldn't hold guys accountable, but he seems to be doing so. Also, he's upped his energy level....

Conerway walking the ball up the court is strange, unless we have a big lead and its late in the game. Woodson's guards did that a lot as well. Makes no sense, and I wondered why CDD didn't say anything about it.

Another is that DeVries has adjusted to an earlier evaluation and is flexible enough and checked his ego enough to make a change to his rotation and to how to attack on offense. It's also true that Sam Alexis had a stretch of games that did not exactly inspire confidence:
Louisville - 17 minutes, 3-7 and 6 points
PSU - 16 minutes - 0 points
UK - 30 minutes - 3-4 with 6 points and 5 rebounds
Chicago State - 18 minutes - 1-1 with 2 points and 4 rebounds
Siena - 21 minutes - 8 points
Maryland - 12 minutes - 0-4 with 2 points
Nebraska - 10 minutes - 1-1 with 1 rebound and 2 points
MSU - 16 points - 3-5 for 6 points and 0 rebounds
There's not much there that would make me super excited to give Alexis way more minutes than Reed Bailey. I don't view this as a massive oversight by Darian DeVries that cost IU games against Louisville or Kentucky or MSU or Nebraska. I view it as a positive that he's willing to adjust with more evidence (as opposed to a previous regime that did the exact opposite). Anyway, thought you'd appreciate the thought of continuing reduced minutes for Bailey ha.
