...Yeah, my description of more guys by them around the ball didn't really do it justice. It was even with us having better position they were vacuuming up everything that bounced just a little out of our reach. Our reactions were so slow. Being inside a guy is not 'boxing out' , being around the hoop is not the same as rebounding.I keep seeing situations where there are 2 or more of our guys blocking out and then they just watch v. actually going after the ball, and a guy on the other team comes flying in to grab it off the bounce. The NW game, 2nd half, there was one instance where a NW player came from somewhere near the basket to grab a rebound on the FL extended with at least 3 IU guys surrounding the ball. There was an audible gasp from the crowd.
All game against Northwestern, I just had to say Judas Priest! don't our guys want the ball, ever?! Contrast with a Dennis Rodman who made it his mission and studied the technique with hours of film. Now I don't expect a Dennis Rodman level, but something.
Our reactions were so slow
Big problem with this team. How many times have you seen TD get the ball on a turnover near half court and he should have an easy layup or dunk but by the time he gets down the floor there are three defenders ahead of him. Most of our player are slow. Conor runs hard. Maybe Sisley but haven't seen much of him lately. Do we look at their 40 yard dash times when we recruit? You generally can't coach speed. Effort yes, but speed you have or you don't.
