@openwheel Yeah we have our moments where everything's working. Need some Cignetti-like emphasis on doing it every possession, every half, every game.
Reminded of a coach who talked about it being easy to want to win. Hard to do what it takes to win.
I was just trying to come up with some justification why many players seem to skip it. 🤣
,
@openwheel Because they are soft or not taught to rebound. They need to go watch Oakley, Rodman and Dale Davis tape.
IUFB: Fast, Physical, Relentless IUBB: Slow, Insubstantial, Yielding

because they are getting paid either way?
I only watched the last 10 or so minutes, but I'm curious why TC only played 19 minutes. He had 14 points and 3 assists, and didn't miss a shot.
Can someone explain? Not being a wise ass; I'm genuinely interested in the answer.
@gthomas He’s probably working his way back from that ankle injury. His usage has been confusing with how inconsistent it has been.

dudes game is like Myles rice. Drive to the hole. And that's it. To me we are better without him. I'd love it if he could fit in because his speed is good and defensively he's tough but man he's so one dimensional on offense imo.

It seems to me that we may have another coach that doesn’t see the game real well until he watches the film. During the Wisconsin game, Alexis was on it. Rebounding, making post moves, diving on the floor for loose balls, etc…. Team maintained a nice lead while he was in the game. Inexplicably, he sits for about a 10 minute stretch of the second half, with only one foul, in favor of Bailey who was his typical inconsistent self. Lead dwindles until Alexis comes back in with under four minutes and makes a couple of huge plays. The entire section I sit in was begging for Alexis to come back in as soon as Wisconsin started making their run, but he just sat there for another 6 or 7 minutes. There have been numerous times when a bench player is having a stellar game, but doesn’t get any more playing time than usual. I think players see that and figure there’s no point in playing with maximum sustained effort because there’s no individual reward for it. During Coach Knight’s tenure, when a bench player was outplaying the starter, the bench guy got all of the starter’s minutes for the rest of the game, and it usually worked out very well. I loved that approach as an accountability and motivational technique, but haven’t really seen it since the Knight era. It always seems to me that our coaches are too afraid of hurting someone’s feelings to send a needed in game message about their level of effort or intensity. Interested to see if others have noticed this.
It was disturbing how many boards they had three guys around and we had one, with a couple other guys fading down court.
We just expected to win.
Oops...
I keep seeing situations where there are 2 or more of our guys blocking out and then they just watch v. actually going after the ball, and a guy on the other team comes flying in to grab it off the bounce. The NW game, 2nd half, there was one instance where a NW player came from somewhere near the basket to grab a rebound on the FL extended with at least 3 IU guys surrounding the ball. There was an audible gasp from the crowd.
Fascinating thought. Perhaps that's part of it. I also don't think DD has been a good game manager this season. It always seems to me that our coaches are too afraid of hurting someone’s feelings to send a needed in game message about their level of effort or intensity. "Player's coach"
I'm one of the biggest DD pessimists on here, but even I didn't see this coming. Must win--at AH vs. powerhouse NW--and IU drops a 2nd half turd. Ffs.
At least Selection Sunday won't be nerve wracking.
same here..:: I predicted a 7 point win. Never even contemplated a loss...
I had taped the game and was to the point in 2nd half when we had lost part of the lead but were maintaining a 6-7 point spread when a friend texted me and said "Can you fing believe we lost that game?". Although we were starting to play like crap, even after all these years of ridiculous losses, I hadn't seen this one coming, because of how little talent NW has. It was an interesting watch after that.....my friend did me a favor because I would have lost my s if I had watched it live.

Did not intend to be so dramatic about it. Not sure how that happened.
@gthomas I'm with you. When a team shoots like IU did in the first half they are normally up 15+ points. Being up by only nine was an omen for what was to happen. You could say Northwestern weathered the storm as they knew IU was not going to continue to shoot the lights out. Kudos to their coaching staff and players for not giving in and continuing to play hard. They deserved to win.
All these visiting teams have hope against us whatever the score......Purdue, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Northwestern....you can see it in the body language. You know their coaches are telling them "these guys will fold if you play hard the whole game". Worst thing is win they finally take the lead and they're high 5ing and laughing.....and making shots out of their ass....
