Play Ristic major minutes. His basketball IQ is as good as most of the guys out there. Not saying much.

Might as well start playing all the guys who have years remaining. See if we can keep them.

All exactly spot on ... WV was perfect for him.  He's in way over his head.
Where's IUnorth.  He gave me such a ration for calling Tucker slow. Smile

you know obviously we are all very happy about football. But I really didn't want to trade it for complete idiocy in basketball.  Now give the national championship on Monday and I'll endure but why can't we be great in both

@seyton I don’t want the basketball program punished, I want the people who wrecked the program punished. Fred Glass oversaw a decade of mediocrity and got to retire on his own terms. Dolson is hiding behind Cignetti. Quinn gets to spew incoherent nonsense during Pacers games.

We had complete idiocy in basketball well before we started being happy about football.

I am not really buying the whole DD will do better in the portal now because he has more time and a full staff. What exactly is his selling point going to be. We most likely won't make the ncaa and he likely is not going to e able to outbid guys for impact players. He won't have the money. Woodson was a crap coach but he had alot of money and could sell ill get you to the nba after tjd and shifino. DD can't sell that  Add to that he is boring as heck.

@hoosiers94 choosing not to join in the meltdown conversation.  It sure doesn’t look good, right now.

Seytons post is one of the better complaint posts I’ve seen.  Roster constriction, and then not getting the guys he got, to play consistently how he wants them to play…those two things are the major flaws.  DeVries has proven he can coach, though.  He’s not trash.  And it’s not yet obvious he can’t coach at a place like IU.

I spent many, many posts advocating for McCollum.  By way of his win over IU, he appears he’ll have the better first year of the two.  And he’s doing it with less accomplished low/mid major players than CDD has.  But let’s not overreact and think he’s having immediate levels of Cignetti-like success.  They lost at Minny too.  They got drilled worse than we did at MSU, and were never competitive with them in that game, Mike we were for 2/3 of it.

I’m young enough to be patient about it all.  Lets see how the season finishes, and then what he and his staff can do in this years offseason.  If next years team is similar or worse…can’t give him 4+ years like everyone else has gotten.  I would suspect he, Clark, and Johnson will have better success this offseason than last.  But who knows?

There are too many people, coaches, media, etc… that think highly of him to make some of these claims I’m seeing…and have them be definitive.  I guess we could have all hoped for that 1% guy that would have had IU in a better spot than they are now.  But most of the people that are the most angry and definitively done with CDD on here, have also been saying “there’s nothing special” about IU.  Hard for me to square that with the expectation that IU should just be able to wave the magic candy stripes and get someone that would get us to a B10 contending team in year 1.  It’s barely been done, ever, at any P4 school.  May last year was probably the closest.

He’s a good coach.  He built a flawed roster, for whatever reason.  And he hasn’t been able to get them to play consistently well yet.  Disappointing.  But not worthy of firing.

IU doesn’t hire based on merit in the athletics department. Fred Glass had no athletics experience but got the job because he was a high profile lawyer with a big Rolodex. He oversaw mediocrity for a decade because the university president was disinterested in sports. Dolson has never worked anywhere else other than IU. He got the job because he was next in line. He got extremely lucky hiring Cignetti so he has cover for botching basketball.

Is it any wonder why basketball has been dogshit?

In the last two decades IU basketball has had three decent/good seasons (2012,2013,2016) and football has had four (2019,2020,2024,2025). That’s it. Pathetic.

Maybe he is a good coach at this level maybe he isn't. He put together a roster that isn't very good that much I know. And his personality is just like archie. Some guys just aren't meant to coach high level d1. And now he gets to build another whole new roster this spring again.  So far it isn't very encouraging.

I can tell you this , if I had given one of my managers , let's say a million dollars to build a new department of folks to produce better results than the previous group that was there, and he yielded what amounts to no better than the previous ... I'd fire that manager after one year.  No doubt about it.  Putting a roster together is part of his job.  He's failed at that.  He's proven to not be able to perform the job at a high level. Despite arguing he can coach.  To me it's irrelevant... 1. Roster

2. no charisma /. Door knob

There's probably room to criticize Fred Glass on athletics experience but working that Rolodex did bring in a lot of big donors. Pretty sure most (all?) of the Memorial Stadium renovations, as well as Cook Hall, SSAH, the new baseball/softball complex, the Wilkinson volleyball/wrestling building were done under his watch. He himself said something like "...now we're just missing one thing: winning."

I'm NOT at all saying they're equal, but McCollum is establishing a culture with his Drake players, just as Cig did with his JMU guys. Iowa will likely be a major player in the B1G sooner rather than later.

Side note: I do find it odd that no former players, other than his son, chose to come to IU with DK. Hmm. Certainly there are a few WVU guys better than this collection of misfit toys.

Looking at iowas schedule they could easily win their next five its pretty soft. Meanwhile we will go to Rutgers at 3-5.

Rutgers is the only game in the next five that IU has a decent chance to win:

@ Michigan = No f'ing way

@ Rutgers = Maybe

Purdue = Uh ... no

@ UCLA = Doubt it

@ USC = Doubt it

IU standing at 4-8 after that stretch isn't only possible, it's likely.
