IU doesn’t hire based on merit in the athletics department. Fred Glass had no athletics experience but got the job because he was a high profile lawyer with a big Rolodex. He oversaw mediocrity for a decade because the university president was disinterested in sports. Dolson has never worked anywhere else other than IU. He got the job because he was next in line. He got extremely lucky hiring Cignetti so he has cover for botching basketball.

Is it any wonder why basketball has been dogshit?

In the last two decades IU basketball has had three decent/good seasons (2012,2013,2016) and football has had four (2019,2020,2024,2025). That’s it. Pathetic.

There's probably room to criticize Fred Glass on athletics experience but working that Rolodex did bring in a lot of big donors. Pretty sure most (all?) of the Memorial Stadium renovations, as well as Cook Hall, SSAH, the new baseball/softball complex, the Wilkinson volleyball/wrestling building were done under his watch. He himself said something like "...now we're just missing one thing: winning."

Glass couldn’t hire a good revenue sport coach to save his life. Firing Wilson and then not even doing a national coaching search and instead walking down the hallway and giving Tom Allen the job was comically pathetic. Buying into the media hype around Archie instead of actually assessing his coaching acumen was another disaster.

Dolson locked in on DeVries early on well before the season ended to the exclusion of other potential candidates. Even his process for hiring a football coach was stupid- he said he researched how other basketball schools hired football coaches who had some success. What? Why not just evaluate coaches and find the best one who would be interested?

As far as the facilities are concerned, Glass defended not building a football only weight room which was actively used against IU in recruiting. His “24 Sports, One Team” philosophy was dumb as hell, given that football drives everything. I don’t care about volleyball or wrestling. Those don’t move the needle at all.

We're all friends here, so you can tell the truth... Glass banged your wife, didn't he?

No, I just had to endure a decade of shit because of him while almost every other school in the surrounding area had good success in at least one sport. If not for a unicorn in Cignetti, Dolson’s tenure would have been no better.

@hoosiers94 choosing not to join in the meltdown conversation.  It sure doesn’t look good, right now.

Seytons post is one of the better complaint posts I’ve seen.  Roster constriction, and then not getting the guys he got, to play consistently how he wants them to play…those two things are the major flaws.  DeVries has proven he can coach, though.  He’s not trash.  And it’s not yet obvious he can’t coach at a place like IU.

I spent many, many posts advocating for McCollum.  By way of his win over IU, he appears he’ll have the better first year of the two.  And he’s doing it with less accomplished low/mid major players than CDD has.  But let’s not overreact and think he’s having immediate levels of Cignetti-like success.  They lost at Minny too.  They got drilled worse than we did at MSU, and were never competitive with them in that game, Mike we were for 2/3 of it.

I’m young enough to be patient about it all.  Lets see how the season finishes, and then what he and his staff can do in this years offseason.  If next years team is similar or worse…can’t give him 4+ years like everyone else has gotten.  I would suspect he, Clark, and Johnson will have better success this offseason than last.  But who knows?

There are too many people, coaches, media, etc… that think highly of him to make some of these claims I’m seeing…and have them be definitive.  I guess we could have all hoped for that 1% guy that would have had IU in a better spot than they are now.  But most of the people that are the most angry and definitively done with CDD on here, have also been saying “there’s nothing special” about IU.  Hard for me to square that with the expectation that IU should just be able to wave the magic candy stripes and get someone that would get us to a B10 contending team in year 1.  It’s barely been done, ever, at any P4 school.  May last year was probably the closest.

He’s a good coach.  He built a flawed roster, for whatever reason.  And he hasn’t been able to get them to play consistently well yet.  Disappointing.  But not worthy of firing.

Maybe he is a good coach at this level maybe he isn't. He put together a roster that isn't very good that much I know. And his personality is just like archie. Some guys just aren't meant to coach high level d1. And now he gets to build another whole new roster this spring again.  So far it isn't very encouraging.

There are a lot of coaches that simply aren't meant for the big leagues.  DDs protégé McDermott was a disaster at ISU but has killed it at Creighton.  Many more examples.

In the current landscape, donating any NIL to basketball is stupid. Football is everything.

Given what we have seen from dd I dont think anyone will be throwing money at him. If there  was momentum and this going the right direction maybe but not the way things currently are

BREAKING NEWS: The controversy surrounding the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team has escalated after the father of star Tayton Conerway reportedly sent a four-word message to head coach Darian DeVries following their 57-74 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes — a message that many insiders described as having a “threatening” tone.
The message comes after recent controversies involving Tayton Conerway and the Indiana Hoosiers basketball program, a situation that has sparked widespread debate among fans and analysts. Sources say the brief but cryptic message immediately caught attention within the athletic department, adding to the instability of an already tense situation.
